I'm a bit confused....you have another thread from earlier this week about your ongoing K1 visa?

Presumably once your K1 is approved then you would be residing in the US.

It’s also by no means certain that the parent sponsor visa will still exist in 16 years’ time when the oldest child turns 21.

Seems sad. He is a professor teaching at a local colage.  Well educated  good family they have been here many years.. this is all the kids know.. I feel sad for the family.

Then it’s surprising that the college won’t sponsor him for a green card. I know a number of academics who’ve all been sponsored for green cards by the universities they teach at.

Talk to the school and see if they can sponsor you. Also, the kids are very young, so even in the case that no GC is available for this case your kids will be fine. Kids at that age needs their family together. They will adjust if they have to move to their home country with their parents.

If you have a PhD and publications, teaching awards, etc. you might qualify to self-sponsor your green card.

You would need to be in the "Extraordinary Ability" category. You would also need a lot of letters of recommendations.

You could also try to get a job at another college who would sponsor your GC. I'm surprised they did not do it for you because it is expensive. However, they only have 18 months from the time you accept the offer to sponsor a work based GC under category 2, "Outstanding professors and researchers", for which you need less evidence than the "Extraordinary Ability" category (basically with the PhD and some evidence that you qualify, etc, you would get it).
