I agree with the article. Why should rich people get to break the law, just because they can afford a fine?

it's the most ridiculous thing, and why we have people in jail for inability to pay..#maga

Other places have saner methods. Finland and Argentina, for example, have tailored fines to income for almost 100 years. The most common model, the “day fine,” scales sanctions to a person’s daily wage. A small offense like littering might cost a fraction of a day’s pay. A serious crime might swallow a month’s paycheck. Everyone pays the same proportion of their income.

They made Judge Jeanine pay $400 for her speeding ticket and now she looks like this.

The rich can afford more of everything. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.

i know that. but this is why the upper crust are a class all on their own. they do not have the same consequences as worker bees.

I don’t think it’s fair to randomly penalize someone just because they are wealthy. Speeding is speeding. Robbing a bank is robbing a bank. It’s against the law for everyone.

speeding is speeding. but the fined amount being the consequence for breaking the law is not remotely equal. making the consequence equal isn't randomly penalizing anyone.

It’s a set fee, like buying a gallon of gas. It’s the same for everyone. No discrimination. What could be more fair than that?

it's not a fee/tax so much as a fine, its meant to be punishment. taking a hundred bucks from someone who makes that in a couple minutes is not a fair punishment when a hundred bucks to some is two weeks worth of groceries..
