Hi there,

 

Will they take my Canadian passport during oath ceremony?

If my permanent visa card is expired while I am in the process of getting USC, can I still travel back to Canada?

Canadian PP:No. They only take the green card. After oath, you apply for US passport. If you travel to Canada: use your Canadian PP and when you back to USA: use US passport.

The documentation says to bring all your passports so I wanted to know whether they are taking them away or not.

No, your allowed to keep ur cdn passport and of course still be a Canadian Citizen....The USA just sees you as a USA citizen.....And when u enter the USA as a citizen you have to use ur USA Passport.   I do believe you have to keep ur Green card valid to enter the USA and still have status.

You need to get an extension on your GC if it is expired. You are not a USC until you take the Oath. So if you are traveling back to Canada, you will still need your valid GC to come back into the US until you become a US Citizen. 

You will also want to take any USCIS cards (AP/EAD, 2yr Conditional green card and 10 yr GC) that have been issued to you to the oath ceremony. They will take these from you before the oath ceremony. Once you receive your naturalization certificate, you can then apply for your US passport. I used my naturalization certificate to travel back and forth from Canada to the US while I was waiting for my passport to be processed.

Your timeline has not been filled out so it is difficult to counsel you without knowing where you are in the immigration process. 

 

Have you already received your green card?  Have you filed for ROC?  What about N-400?
