LONDON Medical Examination

I have a question for people who have attended the medical exam at Knightsbridge - I just read this article in the news, and further down the artlce it says - "what does a medical examination for US immigrant visa entail? The physical examination will at least include examination of the eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremeties, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin and external genitalia".

External genitalia? Really? Do they do this? I am totally freaked out right now.

Had my medical in London in July 2016.

The doctor did look, for about a second. There was no touching and no commenting! All in all it wasn't any bother to me.

I can't find an "official" site that refers to these, but several different places have essentially this exact set of criterion:

"The doctor will then give you a physical examination, which will include looking at your eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin, and external genitalia. The doctor will also perform a mental status examination, assessing your intelligence, thought, comprehension, judgment, affect, mood, and behavior."   (https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/free-books/fiance-marriage-visa-book/chapter2-3.html)

The exam is used to determine if you have or are likely to have a communicable disease, among other things, and as such, the examination of the external genitalia is not unheard of.

As far as I'm aware a genital exam is no longer done at Knightsbridge, since last year. Yes it was a common and required practice. My husband certainly had it done, as most people did back then. Yes the doctor did use hands, and yes an odd comment was made - much to his resigned embarrassment. He was not seen by the doctor from the article.

I had that but agree that it is no longer done at Knightsbridge. The doctor told me it was a quick gender check. I asked how many he had come across that we're claiming to be a different gender and he said, "you'd be surprised."

It was stopped in December 2016. I had my medical in November 2016 - go figure. I had a genital examination. I am female and it involved spreading my legs like a butterfly (feet together but knees far apart just the way they do a bikini wax) and the name doctor took a good look. Nothing was said.

No matter how many times I've done this for medical exams or whatever it never gets any less embarrasing, it mortifies me! I mean if I have to whip my bits out in order to get my visa I will, but I'd rather not :P

Thanks for your replies everyone, I think that article made me freak out way more than it should've

It’s the Daily Mail. It’s sole purpose is to freak people out that things are far more horrific than they really are.
