If this were true there would be no such thing as a RFE for immigration visas. Those people are not expected to start from scratch and pay the fees again. 

 

USCIS inputted my son's birth date wrong on his IR2. I had to correct it by sending NVC a copy his passport. Data entry mistakes happen including from people who work for the Government. Does that mean I should've gotten my money back because of a clerical error?

 

There has to be some way to fix the form. It just sounds like the Consulate is hoping the OP will just pay the fees again because it's easier for them.

Perhaps try emailing the consulate copy(ies) of the passport bio page(s) to show applicants are not 80+ yrs of age. 

 

This appears to be an honest mistake and get a higher up involved.. (embassies occasionally make mistakes, so do applicants on occasion).

Exactly. If people sometimes still get issued visas despite getting things like the spelling or order of their own names wrong, or having previously actually lied on official forms, it seems odd that OP just has to suck it up on a mistake like this.

If there was something wrong on the application you c=an certainly update the application at the interview.

 

Here we have someone who has applied for others stating they are of an age which does not need an interview.

 

So what happens next, presumably it is still reviewed and then the age discrepancy comes up, is it then put into the pile to be interviewed or refused?

 

I have not heard of anybody paying with a CC, I know in the UK they take a Debit Card, when I applied I think it was cheque.

 

There are visa issuance fees payable at the Consulate which are different.

What is wrong with using the dropbox  option? Your Uncle should be contacting the embassy with receipt # and requesting what to do next not you it's not your case.

We paid our visa interview fees with credit cards. In any case, doesn’t appear to apply to Nigeria, while looking that up, I did see that the page for Nigeria says you should only lose your fee if you don’t schedule an interview 12 months after paying the fee.  Doesn’t seem fair that they won’t let him schedule one. 

 

But OP it’s not clear, did you call with your payment receipt code and try schedule and then they refused? If not that’s what you should try do irrespective of what it says about a Dropbox.

This receipt is valid for one year from the date of payment and allows you to schedule your interview at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General. If you do not schedule an interview within a year of payment then your receipt will expire, you will not be able to schedule an interview, and you must pay the fee again and begin the process anew.

It's Nigeria. Everything in Nigeria is frustrating from start to finish. They will frustrate the life out of you for no just reason. In saner climes, a simple email or phone call to the proper office would resolve this. Why a WEBSITE as big as TRAVEL.STATE.GOV can't and won't accept payments online from non-GTBANK customer is beyond me. I'll advise to pay another fee, if granted a visa, then write or call USCIS to see what they can say.

USCIS has nothing to do with non-immigrant visa fees.  Travel.state.gov likewise is not involved in the fee collection process-- it is an information site.  There is one bank in each country that is contracted to collect the fees and deposit them into a specific US givernment account.

 

OP:  You should contact the appointment call center and ask them to re-activate your visa receipt number.  There is no way to get a refund for the visa application fee if you pay it again.
