Government shutdown - what happens to scheduled interviews?

With the government shutdown seeming more and more likely, what would exactly happen to people who are supposed to be interviewed at US Consulates abroad?

I know the fee-financed activities aren't subject to shutdown (so USCIS should stay open), but I doubt our visa application fees cover 100% of the cost of running a Consulate abroad.

Thoughts on this?

This would be a royal screw-up... for instance, my mom has to interview in 10 days and I already bought her plane and train tickets (as well as hotel reservation) to get to the US Consulate...

i think essential services such as overseas missions such as embassies and consulates remain open even if government shuts down here in the mainland. so i wouldn't worry too much. besides they will inform you in advance if they are not going to be open that day and will reschedule the interview.

I doubt they will consider immigrant visa issuance an essential service.

Embassies and Consulates will remain operational, I'm afraid they'll shut down the visa sections.

And informing me won't help, since I already bought plane tickets for my mom to get to the consulate.

perhaps. all im saying is shutdowns happen all the time but they rarely last for weeks and weeks on end and we have yet to see a lot of people complain that have been cancelled on because of it.
