****hole Immigrants

I became a US citizen on January 10, 2018, and as soon as I had become a citizen, we watched a video of President Trump welcoming us to this great country. In my ceremony, there were, if i remember correctly, 15 people, representing 12 countries. The majority in my group where people of color.

 

The next day, January 11, 2018, the president of the United States wondered why immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, and Africa -- countries and a continent that he called ****holes, were coming here.

 

Being a native of Kenya, one of the countries in Africa, and my wife being a native of Haiti, darkness and gloom and disbelief enveloped our home. We could barely sleep. Our 22-year-old daughter, a Green Card holder, is old enough, smart enough, and discerning enough to know President Trump for what he has shown himself to be. Our 8-year-son started asking questions, and we had to explain to him and assure him that his parent's native countries are not ****holes. We had to explain to him what a racist is, what a person filled with hate and ignorance and bigotry is -- and that the president of the United States is those things. We did this clinging to our 3-year-old son, almost shaking in disbelief from the shock of the character and words of our president.

 

Later, I retreated to the 'man cave,' the basement, to medicate and to pray for my children's future, and for my country - the United States of America, that God blesses and protects her from Donald Trump and those around him who fail to see him for what he has shown himself to be.

To the OP...  I am sorry for the turmoil this has caused for your family at what should be a very joyous time in your life.

 

Welcome to America, I hope it becomes all that you dreamed it could be.  Your perseverance thru the immigration process speaks volumes about you as a person, and I'm sure you will find your "happy place" as a newborn USC.

 

Don't let ANYONE, not even the president, bring down your joy.  Bear in mind there is a daily political war being waged, and not everything is as it seems.  Now that you are a USC, use your voice wisely when it comes election time!!

You're right, it's a constant cat and mice and I don't think he will ever admit he said such a thing. One thing i've learned is that there where is smoke, there is also fire.
But maybe he said it, maybe he didn't and there are evil forces trying to overthrow him as he claims.

 

What I know is that if it's true he said that ( as well as the other thing he said about Haitians having AIDS, which he also denied ever saying) I personally will never let it affect me.
First generation immigrants have to overcome more than this type of ignorant bs, and nothing is given to them for free. They worked hard to get where they are. 

 

I've immigrated twice, once with my parents from blank blank continent of Africa and again by myself from Europe to America. I know my parents worth, I know my worth and I know my children's worth, dumb things like this will never change that. Being born in a third world country taught me many life lessons others will never experience in their entire life. I grew up with values and traditions and a rich history, but above all, it taught me respect for other people. I embraced my second home as a child and that taught me other values and traditions. I took the best from both worlds and that made me the person I'm today and I'm freaking proud of myself.

 

So look at what you and your family have achieved, without the help of anyone else and definitely not with the help of Trump. Pass that on to your children, they can be proud of who they are and words like this won't affect them.

President Trump is not a skilled speaker, nor is he a politician. He doesn't decide what to say based on polls. He opens his mouth and often speaks like a blue collar dude does, whenever he feels like it.

He ran his campaign on the premise to make America great again and to get a hold on illegal immigration and the abuse of legal immigration, primarily the H1-B visas.

 

America was truly great, up to about 1965, when the INA of 1965 changed the US immigration system dramatically, and not to the better.
Prior to 1965, immigrants to the United States were primarily Europeans, highly skilled craftsmen and merchants. They came from a culture similar to that of the United States, had flush toilets, and knew how to use them. Those people wanted to assimilate and contribute to the country.

 

After 1965, everyone from anywhere on the planet, ****hole countries included, could start chain immigration, import their family members to the US, and many did like there's no tomorrow. Waiting time for the Philippines for the F4 family preference category is now 24 years, and for Mexico for the F3 family preference category 18 years. It's that long because citizens of those countries abused the system.

Unfortunately, many of those fresh immigrants from ****hole countries are uneducated and/or unskilled. They compete for minimum wage jobs and thus keep wages down. They also put a strain on the social system. Some immigrants come from countries were defecating in the streets is standard, and I even witnessed this when I visited India again in 2016. Some immigrants come from a society where marrying your family friend's 12 year-old daughter is perfectly acceptable, or where killing a wife who strayed is accepted.

 

None of these immigrants benefits "America" in any way, shape, or form. Thus the President's desire to switch this country's immigration system to a merit-based one, following the lead of almost every other civilized nation. In the UK there' no chain immigration, nor is there co-sponsorship. The requirements for sponsorship are much higher. Try to immigrate to Australia or, God forbid, Japan, and see how difficult that is. Try to do it as an unskilled worker and it becomes impossible.

 

So President Trump said what many of Americans think. Saying this out loud is not what a politician would have done. But again, he's not a politician, nor did his supporters vote for him because he's just a beautiful speaker. He isn't. They voted for him because he says it like it is, no matter how politically incorrect it may be in a society that tries to be offended whenever possible.

Saying that I like to give people benefit of the doubt if I didn't hear it myself. I didn't hear it, so I can't ever say without any doubt: Trump did say ****hole countries.
Based on his whole demeanour and his previous actions, and his twitter tantrums I'm more likely to believe that he indeed said it.

 

Does that make any sense?

 

@Brother Hesekiel , the only thing that will lead to America's downfall is arrogance. Like many other great civilizations before, it's nothing new.
