Using AP & Travel to Canada

Hey guys! 

 

I recently received my EAD Combo Card. My AOS is still pending, and I am intending to travel to Canada next month to get my personal belongings. My decision to AOS was very spontaneous so I really just have very few personal items with me right now.

 

1.I'd like to know whether its okey to go out of the country while AOS is pending? I just don't feel comfortable after reading the clause on the EAD approval that says entry is not guaranteed. 


2. I also plan to Drive. Is there a pros and cons of flying vs driving?

Flying vs driving should make no difference.

My wife (came over on K1 Visa in May 2017) and I have used her AP combo card twice to visit her family in Vancouver BC.     We read on VJ to have copies of all NOAs regarding the K1 Visa, AOS, EAD/AP, and a copy of our marriage certificate just in case.  


We drove from Seattle through the Peace Arch crossing both times, and had zero issues entering Canada and returning to the US.  On our return to the US, they didn't even ask for any of our NOA copies or marriage certificate.  We just handed my US passport, her Canadian passport and EAD/AP combo card.  The border agent was friendly, asked the standard questions, and welcomed back to the US - took 2-3 minutes tops.

Although we had no issues crossing in the past, we will still bring copies of our NOAs and marriage certificate just in case.
