Remarriage in Philippines

Hello,

I am a US citizen who was married to a Filipina in the Philippines in 1991 and divorced in the US in 2012.

We were both US citizens at the time the divorce was finalized.

I now have a girlfriend in the Philippines and we are considering marriage.

I have read some information on obtaining a marriage license in the Philippines that states a Foreign National formerly married to a Filipino, needs to submit Judicial Recognition of the absolute decree of divorce obtained abroad of her/his previous marriage (see below):

MARRIAGE-LICENSE-REQUIREMENTS-NEW.pdf

I am trying to determine which is easier, less expensive and less time consuming:

1) to get remarried in the Philippines and obtain a spouse visa, or

2) to obtain a finance visa and get married in the US.

Is there someone out there who can advise?

I honestly don't know what's involved in getting it sorted for marriage in the Philippines under this fact pattern. My gut tells me that the less you have to deal with Filipino bureaucracy, the faster it will be and the less stressed you'll both be. Off the top of my head, I'd suggest going the fiancee route.

The Judicial Recognition is a court process ... take both time & money to complete.

If you go with the K-1 fiancee visa you don't need the Judicial Recognition .. with the IR/CR-1 spousal visa you would need the Judicial Recognition.    Plus the K-1 is much quicker to complete.  ;)
