Joint bank account

Hi all,

Is it okay if we have a joint account with a low balance like 1k or 2k? Part of our direct deposits goes to the account and we just use the account to pay for our mortgage and some other bills.

We do have a joint credit card, joint car loan, joint tax returns, life & health insurance. Is that ok?

Thank you

They look for comingling of funds and others have posted that they got static for an account that sees little activity.  It's easy to set up a separate account for show and they know that.

We both deposit money into the account monthly. Just not a lot of money. So paying for credit card bills, phone bills, mortgage, car loan, etc is little activity? For other expenses, we prefer to use either our joint credit card or our separate cards because we can get rewards/points.

We do have another joint checking account with a little higher balance but we rarely use it. So I don't think submitting statements from that account is good.

But then you pay off these credit cards with payments from the bank accounts; right ??

unfortunately when on the path to convince USCIS, maintaining and routinely using separate cards " to get the points" doesn't really stand -

also, maintaining a joint account where only rent money goes is not strong enough either - Boy scouts of America have joint checking accounts where all donations go - does not mean anything.

you have to show that you share daily finances - both put money in, both take money out - every month , every day, groceries, gas, restaurant meals, shopping,  doctor visits, etc ... one of the biggest fraud flags is when partners withhold money from being co-mingled... you are not room mates trying to share rent and the electric  bill.......
