Was this church a gun free zone?

Texas has lenient gun laws I believe.

Unverified assumption, apparently.

The shooter’s name was reported through sources by The New York Times and CBS News; the latter gave his name as Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, and said the Air Force court martial occurred only three years ago. Although the motive was not yet clear, the gunman’s background includes religious school work, but he also liked pages devoted to atheism. The shooter, who is dead, left behind disturbing social media posts, including a Facebook page that showed off a rifle, calling it a “bad #####.”

Anything to mock the death of tens of people killed by gun violence. There appears to be a parallel between the state of mind of the shooters and those mocking the dead.

Then why do you do it?

These people were in church, praying to God and it didn't stop them from getting mowed down. There wasn't even a good guy with a gun.

Did not somebody get him on the way out? Must admit the lack of a CC holder worried me too.

Don't need CC holders in other first world countries.

and from the link by calicat, it seems there was........

Quote

Authorities revealed that a heroic and unidentified citizen in the church “grabbed his rifle and confronted the suspect,” who was armed with a “Ruger AR assault type rifle.” The local citizen pursued the suspect, who ran off the road and crashed and was found deceased in his vehicle. “We don’t know if it was a self inflicted gunshot wound or if he was shot by our local resident who engaged him with gunfire,” authorities said. It was the largest mass shooting in Texas history.

Firearms account for close to 70% of homicides per year on average in the USA. That's more than twice as many as homicides committed by vehicles, blunt objects, knifes, hands, fists, feet, being thrown out of a window, explosives and poison combined. Might as well stop running from the facts because you can't hide from them.
