hello everyone! we submitted our i-129f in late june so we're still waiting on our noa2 and trying to learn as much as possible about what we'll need when we finally get it.

here's my question - my usc fiance has only the most recent year's tax returns to show because he hasn't filed them for the years before that. i've heard that some embassies require to see three most recent years' tax returns although on the official uscis website there's nothing about it being a compulsory thing. i just tried searching the forum for a definite answer about this, but i couldn't really find anything satisfying so now we're freaking out a little bit.

is it required to show his tax returns along with affidavit of support (we're also using a cosponsor)? do we need three years worth of tax returns or just the most recent?

thanks for responding!

so turns out he filed his taxes for 2014 and 2016 but he's not sure about 2015. he didn't have a real reason to not file his taxes in the past, other than being a young adult who doesn't quite understand the whole tax filing/tax return thing. and i, as a european, understand even less about how all that works.

so is it very likely that the embassy is going to want to see three most recent years' tax returns from him?

No one can tell you for sure if the consular officer would want to see all recent 3 years of his taxes. Since he's filed 2014 and 2016, he'll just need to check if he's filed for 2015. If he hasn't, then file quickly. Thereafter, he downloads his tax return transcripts to e-mail to you for printing.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.
