Proper Duration for the Ongoing Relationship

Hello Everyone,

this is my first post, and here is my question: is two and half years (going towards three) considered an extensive period of time for a legitimate relationship (although with meetings every five/six months), which can also arise a suspicion in respect to a real intention of the couple to get married?

Any comment is welcome

Thanks

An almost 3-year relationship with several face-to-face meetings such as in your case is very beneficial. :)

Not sure why you think it would raise suspicion unless there is something specific you're worried about over those past 3 years?

Honestly, I think it is much more beneficial to be together longer than too short of a time when applying for immigration benefits. :D My (now) husband and I applied for his K1 visa after being together two years and five months. We had three total visits before applying for his visa with two lasting one month each and the last visit being three months long. We also had a few months between each visit. We did not have any difficulties throughout the process of showing that our relationship is legitimate and were approved for his green card last week.

Being together for 2.5 years and from Italy is a good sign. The amount of face-to-face time matters, and it sounds like you're fine there as well. Unless there are some red flags in your case to cause suspicion, and you provide sufficient documentation of the relationship, you should be fine.

Put it this way...

The more common question IOs would probably ask when trying to gauge a fake relationship is "Why would you get married so quickly/when you only met one time/barely know each other?"

They most likely aren't going to ask "Why did you wait until you had an established relationship and spent time together ongoing to get to know each other before getting married?"

Wouldn't really make sense... ;)

Unless one of you is intending on crossing the border with a non-immigrant visa with the intent of getting married and staying to AOS from inside the USA, and you're wondering how that sort of visa fraud is detected and if length of relationship time has anything to do with it, then you have nothing to worry about.
