I think I've read that article, or one like it. I'm aware of the argument that "could care less" is an idiom. My problem with it remains for a number of reasons.

1. Every person I have asked have not even realised that what they have said contradicts what they intended. They aren't self aware that they are using an idiom. They think they are saying that they don't care, for which the proper phrase in my mind is "couldn't care less". You need more sarcastic sit for "could care less" and it is rarely pulled off.

2. Idioms where verbs are stressed, like the Yiddish example given in the article, are almost impossible to pull off in text. While you may get away with it in spoken word, you can't emphasize a particular word when writing and therefore the logical form should take priority.

If people were self aware of their usage of "could care less" I'd be fine. I've never encountered someone who was.

Another one for me is "hold down the fort" instead of "hold the fort".

Not really sure what that has to do with this topic.  It seems pretty clear that Puerto Rico was devastated by a major storm, and it seems pretty clear that the Federal government is not ignoring them.  So why is there a need for an editorial that tries to paint that picture?  With the level of devastation, it will take time to get things moving, but the fact is that aid is flowing.

The president is not leaning the same support in this situation as he did with Texas and Florida.  To top it off he insults the by tweet when down.  The man is a clown.

Because Trump and it fits the narrative.

So it is all Trump's fault?  Why would the governor of PR make this comment if the current administration were ignoring this?

Rossello and other officials praised the federal government for planning its response in detail before the storm hit, a contrast with what Puerto Rico has long seen as the neglect of 3.4 million Americans living in a territory without a vote in Congress or the electoral college.

"This is the first time we get this type of federal coordination," said Resident Commission Jenniffer Gonzalez, Puerto Rico's non-voting representative in Washington.

Puerto Rico was hit by several storms in the past eight years, so apparently the Governor of PR thinks the federal planning and response during the past Administration was lacking in comparison.  Where were the stories and editorials for those events?

Who said the storm was Trump's fault?  This is demonstrating the lack of leadership he has in the communication area.

I beg to disagree.  This was trolling a hit piece on Trump tied to this storm and the federal response and when that failed now it is he is not spending 100% of his time worrying about it.  I realize it is almost impossible for some to give him any credit, but the people on the ground say the planning and response is better than they have ever seen before.  Who was running the Executive branch the last 8 years?  What was he thinking about when PR was hit by multiple storms between 2008 and 2016?  Sure they would like to see more and get it faster, but the simple fact is that it takes time to clean up from such a storm.

Whatever.  I see you ignored my question so I will ask it again.  Since the Trump administration has done more for PR in pre-planning and response to this storm than the last administration for storms that hit during their tenure, what was up with Obama's discipline?

I feel sorry for the Puerto Ricans affected this season. I have several friends who have yet to hear from their family members. :(

However, the title of the post is saying that Puerto Rican is American. Puerto Rican is actually qualified American. If they want to be fully American including voting and representation in Congress, they also need to pay the full amount of taxes.

The U.S. has a unique relationship with PR - a territory but not a state. Most of my Puerto Rican friends are proud of being American, but also proud of being Puerto Rican. Some wish to be an autonomous country, others to be annexed as a state with all the regular rights. It's too bad that the discussion generally comes up only in tragic and catastrophic stories.:(
