I know legal immigrants who are happy with a Green Card and have no intent to apply for citizenship. I would think an illegal immigrant would take that over the possibility of being deported.

My thoughts exactly. I believe that most folks who come here from other countries are just happy to escape whatever nonsense was going on back home while having the opportunity to earn more here.

This is an interesting angle. Basically, you can become a LPR but there is zero chance you'll become a citizen. But honestly, for most folks there is not a whole lot of daylight between LPR and citizen status. Yes, you must be a citizen to hold office, get a federal/state job, etc. But I wonder if, on the surface, most illegal immigrants would be happy enough just to have a GC and go through the renewal process every 10 years?

Honestly, I have talked with my wife on this at great length. As of right now she is a PR with a 10 year card, and has NO ambition right now to be a citizen. She can basically do everything she wants to do as a PR. She was ecstatic a couple weeks ago when she was able to get a Military ID card because I am a 100% Disabled Veteran. But what has recently changed her mind about it is that all her friends are becoming citizens now, so that is making her want citizenship as well.

Absolutely

When talking to my wife about citizenship, she's a bit dismissive of the idea. But when I explain to her that it enables us to live in either country for an indefinite amount of time, something seemed to click for her. So, bottom line: citizenship does hold benefits that are not limited to what you can/can't do in the US.

Pretty much the exact same conversation I have had with my wife as well.

DACA was always temporary so no one should be surprised that it would end.

I blame politicians for this whole mess.

I could live with spooky turtles plan. No citizenship and no voting. They pay taxes and commit no felonies...they can stay.  Give us the right to deport those who cause problems.

It it is plenty fair to the "dreamers".  As a side bonus we will get to see which politicians actually care about the " children" or are just looking for votes or money.

That is what they do, whole point of DACA.

No one asked them to enroll. They did so on their own terms and knew full well that the quasi-legal status their EAD card granted could be revoked when a new administration took over. Anyone who thinks otherwise is sorely mistaken. Enrollment in DACA was an active choice for each of those 800,000 individuals.

Well, you seem to be the expert so I defer to your judgement

What do you have against immigrants voting?  If we only let Republicans in would it be better?
