Yeah, USGS reports "possible explosion" recorded at 6.3 magnitude , near site where North Korea has detonated nuclear explosions in the past.

Abe has issued a statement that North Korean nuclear tests are absolutely unacceptable. Public holiday in North Korea, Sept. 9th.

From Yonhap: South Korea Defence Committee Chair says NK nuclear blast yield likely 100 kilitons, 4-5x's strength of Nagasaki bomb.

North Korea will make an announcement 15:00 Pyongyang time.

Donald Trump has tried to convince the public that he has talked tough and now the regime respects him for it. But that is incredibly simplistic, and shows how much learning has to be done to understand what is really going on. Trump’s signalling to North Korea is all over the map and that is part of the problem – because actually, the North Korean signals are fairly consistent. Incredibly, as all this is taking place, it is being reported that Trump is thinking of withdrawing from the free trade agreement with South Korea.

Trump has rebooted his team to some extent – a new chief-of-staff is trying to get things in order. On North Korea, they need to have a real huddle and rethink their approach.

China Global Times has said NK made the wrong decision, but takes no responsibility-blames US and SKorea. The Russian foreign ministry says the the test deserves the "strongest condemnation"

SKorea wants the US to deploy the "strongest" military assets to show us/rok ability to neutralise NK nuclear/missile abilities.

Still there is no US ambassador to SKorea, nor Asst Secs for Asia at State and Defense.

Sigh.

I am more interested in what China will do, they are the ones with the control. I have a feeling he may well disappear at some point, maybe a show trial.
