Hi guys:

My cousin suppose to receive the letter of her oath ceremony, letter was lost in the post office . She has the electronic informed delivery with USps shows the picture of the letter will arrive soon , but she thinks that the post guy dropped it in wrong mail box. She called the USCIS  they told her to wait till 30 days if she did not receive it she can call them back. She is already known a letter was sent and the post office received and lost it. She went to post office ,they told her we have nothing to do for you , we receive millions of mails every day. She asked to talk to supervisor, he said it can be lost , we have like this situation a lot. She set an appointment for infopass  to see someeone in field office but the sooner date is September 14, and the oath of ceremony is Sep15 she knew about that when she called the main office of USCIS. Do you think guys the local office will give her another letter or they will make it difficult and tell her they will mail it and she will lose the ceremony day. Any one has the experience please???? Thanks

I have no experience in losing a letter ect but in my own experience I didn't need this letter. I had my Green Card, Thai passport, State D L to show if asked. In your cousins case I would simply go to the ceremony even if I was rejected because its so important of a day. The U S Govt people there were very helpful to all in every situation we saw during the event. They expect these things I think. I hope very much you succeed because its a great feeling of pride to become a US citizen.

Actually the oath ceremony notice, also called Form N-445, is required because it has questions in the back of the notice that need to be answered on oath day. The officer at the oath will review those questions and confirm everything is okay.

These are the things I'd suggest you do:

1. Have your cousin talk to her various neighbors ASAP and haver her ask them if there is mail in her name. Don't be shy, this is important and neighbors are generally very understanding if explained the importance of this mail.

2. Have your cousin call customer service on Tuesday (as Monday is a holiday) and have her insist on talking to a tier 2 person. When she gets  a tier 2 person, she should explain her situation and ask if they can fax another form N-445.

3. Let her keep that September 14 InfoPass appointment. If all else fails, she at least has this appointment to talk directly.

thanks for all these advice, about the neighbor has to ask its long street like 20 houses, but I will call `er now to hurry to ask any of `em

The faxed copy still won't have the questionnaire on the back, though, which she will need as you said...

OP, ask the L2 if they can mail out another copy asap...and yes, keep the infopass appointment.

They can fax the page with questionnaire

Two separate pages, you mean?  As far as I know, no fax machine copies the front and back of a page?

Yes, of course...

Those letters are always mailed from the USCIS local filed office.

I wonder if they would accept two pages stapled together instead of the "official one page" at the oath ceremony...I would assume so, but with the way some people in those offices can be...smh.

I know this letter is lost but good thing she has informed delivery. When I receive important mail I go to the post office first thing as soon as they open and pick it up directly. Did this with several pieces of mail already, like NOA1, biometrics notice, passport card and certificate receipt. Maybe she can do this too next time.

My opinion is----Go to the ceremony anyway!  They will have your naturalization certificate ready----- they will know you were supposed to come.  At my ceremony there were 2 immigration officers and supervisor there to help.  Two people that had some sort of problem that day that they fixed and they took the oath.  They collect your form and green card as you enter the room.  They even called out the names of 5 people who did not show up.    They should be able to print up your letter from the computer or even ask you the questions in person and get you to sign something.  Just go!

I was worried on my oath day because my son inadvertently tore the letter about 2 inches as he opened the envelope. The officer said it didn't matter!

Good Luck.
