URGENT: Interview today at Memphis; But Memphis office is closed.

I have a feeling it's only open for scheduled appointments.  That's what would make sense, I guess...

OP, as I suggested too, you'd be better off showing up.  If it is closed, then on Monday call and request an L2 officer about the date on the interview letter and what happened when you got to the office.

There's been at least 2-3 people on VJ who have had Friday n-400 appointments in Memphis in the last couple of months.  I'd say the above is correct and there are no infopass appointments on Friday, but open for scheduled appointments.

I drove past the building and say guard outside taking a smoke break. So I know they are open. Now waiting for interview time at the parking lot. 

 

I guess I'll find out in a little bit 100% certainly. Ig my wife passes, I'll ask them why their phone prompt say office is closed even though they have scheduled interview. Wish us luck everyone.

They only state: 

Visiting the Office 

In order to visit this office or to speak with an immigration services officer, you must have an appointment scheduled by USCIS or you must schedule an INFOPASS appointment.

The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern and the office is closed on Friday.

Guys, I wouldn't leave my VJ family hanging. 

 

We left for Memphis around 7 am. It takes 4 hours to go to Memphis from Nashville. When it was 8 oclock, I called USCIS. But because of spotty cellphone signal, I couldn't get anyone. Called my sister back in Nashville to call for us. She called. And by 9 am, she confirmed from USCIS customer services L2 employee that interview is indeed today and at Memphis office, even if Memphis office telepromot says they are closed. L2 employee was just as perplexed as us to know that Memphis phone message says they are closed on Fridays. 

 

Anyways, my sister updated me and we felt a bit of relief and kept driving to Memphis. We arrived there at 10 am. Interview wasn't for few more hours. We drove past and saw one of the USCIS guard taking a smoke break. This gave us hope. We parked by the Mississippi river and waiting until about 1 hour before our interview. We went in and was revealed to find the office is indeed open. After going through security,  asked the guard why their phone says they are closed on Friidays. They said Memphis office is closed on Fridays for interview. They normally do administrative and training work on Friday. So no interview. However, today Friday, they scheduled a few interview because they would be overbooked come next Tuesday because Monday is a federal holiday and they are off. 

 

TL:DR - Memphis office was open for our interview. 

 

Now a mini-review of the Memphis office and interview.

 

After security check, we signed in. We weren't assigned any ticket number. We were asked to be seated and we'd be called shortly. About 5 minutes after checking in, a lady came and called my wife's name. She went in. I followed. The lady says my wife has to go alone and she'd take good care of my wife. She was very friendly and very professional. Wife went in. They verified her identity with her green card and state ID. They my wife sworn in and asked to signed the N400 form. My wife was very nervous. The interviewer reassured her. And asked her two questions. Question 1: What is the supreme law of the land? A. The Constitution. Question 2: Which countries did US fight during WWII? A. Italy, Germany, Japan. Then my wife was asked to write the capital of United States. She did. And my wife was given form N652. It has check mark on bullet point about how she passed her written, spoken test. And it has check mark next to congratulatory text about how she's being recommanded for final approval. Once that happens, they'll send the oath ceremony letter. This was it. We went in about an hour before our interview. All together were were in the office for about 15 minutes. The actual interview lasted few minutes. Very friendly and very courteous and very professional employees all around from guard to the interviewer and everyone inside. We took in a lot of documents like tax returns, they didn't ask to see any of it. Take these things just because not everyone's gonna have same experience. Take all relevant and required documents. 

 

Lesson learned: Call USCIS to confirm your interview date and time from a level two or L2 agent. And show up even if phone for field office phone says they are closed. Unless there's severe weather issue like in Houston. USCIS offices in Houston and surrounding areas are in fact closed due to Hurricane Harvey Aug 2017. (Posting date and name of weather event for future reader of this post). 

 

Wiife passed. She's gonna be a citizen soon. And her immigration journey is finally coming to an end. Thank you VJ members from as early as 2010 when my and my wife's journey started. You'll literally saved us thousands of dollars by proving relevant and accurate information. This stuff costs thousands of dollars if you get them from an immigration lawyers. Throughout my life, I've posted in a lot of forums from gaming to gardening to anime. But VJ has always been the most helpful and kind and awesome forum. I'm still gonna update my wife's timelines and post on VJ to help others. You all are good people. Good luck to everyone in line.
