i130 sent yesterday Aug 21... What's next now?

Well finally i 130 was sent Yesterday with all the requirements that I found here in the forum, the photos, affidavit of support , well, everything.

Post Mail guy said to my wife that USCIS will receive it tomorrow! We send it to Phoenix AZ Center that corresponds to us.

My question is...

What should I wait now ? Maybe the NOA1???

And if it's correct, what is next step?

Once again congratulations on the beginning of a long journey. You will receive a NOA1 withing two weeks stating what service center your case was sent to along with case# and how they will process it. From what I'm seeing is that it is currently taking 6+ months to process the I-130. If there are no questions from USCIS you will receive your NOA2 or an RFE if there are questions. 

 

Just try and not to drive yourself crazy by checking everyday like the majority of the VJ members here that I've seen. When I submitted mines, I started checking after 3 months since NOA1 once every week. Also be sure to check out the processing time of your service center on USCIS to see where they are currently at. My I-130 took 8 months at the Nebraska Service Center.

the guides are out of date but will give you the general gist.

 

my best advice to you, do not check this everyday, there will be a lot of waiting and it will drive you crazy.

 

btw, just because its delivered today doesn't mean it will be received today, its a po box

NOA2 is currently taking 6+ months, more like 8-9 months

 

You can start preparing the documents that you will need to submit to NVC but for the police clearance, be aware that they are valid for only a certain amount of time. You will not only need to submit it to NVC but also for the interview. If they expire, you will have to obtain fresh copies again.

GRRRR Cuban police records are only valid for 6 months (I have one) but is out of date (i got angry because I have to ask for it even when I'm not there and has to be send it via DHL ...)

The one of here of Colombia doesn't concerns me because they are really fast delivering it, (can be requested even online)...

1- They have to be (the originals) with any kind of special stamp or something. (Ministry of Foreign Affairs for example) to probe that they are originals or that is just not needed...

2- The one who is sent to NVC at the proper time are the copies !!! The original ones are only shown at the embassy !

Sorry for that many questions but believe me, Cuba is extremely slow delivering documents! And one of the Police records have to be requested there!!!

Well, thanks again, seems to be that don't have to be any kind of further stamp or something, and for the Cuban Police records, can be requested to the cuban Embassy here in Bogota! Takes 2 months to be delivered! So I'm going to request them in about 2 months maybe, they are valid for 6 months from the issue date! 

But! Really apreciated the information!!!

Well NOA1 received via SMS to my wife just an hour ago, LIN  number included, the I-797 form should arrive in a very few days via post mail, so, the journey, really started!

Yup everyone getting approved now is at 8-9 months.

 

You'll have plenty of time, even when you get NOA2 you'll have a month at least till you'll need the police report.

 

I'd say just familiarize yourself with the process and docs right now so you're comfortable with everything, and get all your questions answered before hand.

Police clearance is only accepted if it's less than 6 months old.

 

If the Cuban one is difficult, like the Honduran one is, you may consider doing as we did for it, because it required going out of town, is getting a lawyer to get it.  Not sure how it operates in Cuba, but getting the document for us was $100 in lawyer fees well spent.  Saved a day of travel.  If you can do the same in Cuba, it's worth considering if they are harder to get one from. 

 

Other than that, I would just wait and see what they want.  I submitted a lot in advance with the I130 application for the bona fide relationship part.  Don't know if it was even reviewed, or if it helped move things along.  But pictures are the big thing.  I printed them and then labeled them as to where/when and who else was in the picture (if family).   You may have sent those in with your application, but that's the only thing I can think of.  Also, you will need new passport size photos if you did like I did and sent them in with the packet.  Those also can't be more than 6 months old.

 

Oh, if you didn't already pick pictures to label, as I found out, check if your spouse if fussy about which ones are acceptable. Bad hair day, etc.  Just found that out the hard way!  :-)

Thanks, for your advise, well, my father is on that way to pick up the Police records back there in Cuba but I'm going to ask it close to the 6 months from NOA1 (they have 6 months of validity),also I have to ask for the police records here in Colombia but this process is easier because is online and all the process takes 3 days (included the stamp) . as suggested I submited 5 photos of us, marriage etc... wise members of here suggested that and I take the advise! (labeled in the back with date, where , who were in each picture etc...) also passport stamps , Boarding Passes, Bag Tags of the flights, and if so I included two passport type photos of me and of course (as required) of my wife, just in case!!! The passport photos were taked just 4 days after the package sent, more recents impossible!!!

Now tomorrow should arrive the hard copy of I797 (NOA1) at the post mail! Today is Labor Day there in U.S...
