Hello,

I am the petitioner and a US citizen. I was wondering if my father could file as a joint-sponsor for my husband who is the beneficiary? Does anyone have an official link to a website where I can find this information or know the form number I would need?

Anyone who's a USC or LPR with domicile in the US can be a joint sponsor. 

 

The information and forms are on NVC's and USCIS' websites.

Sept 15th 2015 - Request help from Texas US Senator Cornyn and his team

Dec 21st 2015 - 221(g) issued at interview for updated forms


Jan 13th 2016 - Mailed our reply to the 221(g) to the US Embassy, received and CEAC updated the next morning


Jan 20th 2016 - Embassy require more in-depth info on asset for i-864


Feb 1st 2016 - Sent more in-depth info on assets as requested. Received the next morning


Feb 16th 2016 - Visa has been issued :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:

April 5th 2016 - POE Newark. No questions asked.


April 14th 2016 - SSN received


May 10th 2016 - First day at my new job :dancing:


May 27th 2016 - Green Card received


June 7th 2016 - Got my Texas driver's license

Interesting..Because someone said that ONLY IMMEDIATE FAMILY has to be a joint sponsor??? I was kinda concerned about that... I'm glad ANYONE who's USC. Thank you!

For an I-134 (for a K-1), some COs may only accept co sponsors on a case by case basis...usually close family members.

For the I-864 (used for a CR-1/IR-1 or AOS), any USC or LPR living in the US is accepted.

correction on I-134 for k1 co sponsors are not accepted in Philippines. it depends on country and for CR-1 US embassy in manila is the most strict and I do know there it has to be an immediate relative

USEM COs usually do not ask for the I-134, but if they do then they will only accept a co-sponsor on a case by case basis (usually close family).

 

For the I-864, they - by law - must accept any eligible joint sponsor regardless of their relationship (or lack thereof) to the primary sponsor. It is a legally binding and enforceable document (unlike the I-134).
