How to speed up OPT Processing - New job starting

Hi All,

I am an f-1 Student and applied for OPT in May - I graduate on August 4th and was offered and accepted a job commencing on August 9th.

I received my NOA on May 19.

It still says "Case received"

Is there a way to call up and try and expedite it due to a job starting date? or simply I need to wait.

I sent the application in on May 9th - which was the earliest I could with my school. It was not received until May 19.

 

Any help would much appreciated.

I see 75 days is August 2nd.

I assume there is nothing I can do until then?

There is nothing you could do now. I got my OPT last year and I was worried too, but got it before the 90 days were up. I think I sent the application more or less at the time you sent yours, and I got mine like August 10.

I was hoping to get some extra work days.

We will have to just wait and see.

Just called the office and was told it is now 4-6 months wait.

i am meant to start my job on August 17

any tips or advice, the YSC office is currently servicing applications up to feb 21.

Is this the OPT for the F-1? That is kind of absurd! Have to called your university to see how long it is taking for others? At mine they always knew.  

 

Maybe they got confused with the EAD for those that got married to a US citizen.

 

Also, here, people put their info and with a few exceptions, it is taking 90 days http://www.trackitt.com/usa-immigration-trackers/opt  -- I remember checking the site when I did mine.

 

You can call again and get it expedited with your job offer. Anyway, I think the information they gave you is wrong so call again.

Yes this is for F-1 OPT.

 

I know, I felt it was absurd too! I have tried my university but they are trying to find out.

I will try again tomorrow - but that trackitt is positive to see.

Yes, I used to check trackitt when I was waiting for mine.

Awesome! Then the person on the phone had no clue.

 

Good luck! 

 

Remember to report your job and keep track of the days you didn't work. If the number of unemployed days is below 90 you have 60 day grace period when your OPT expires.
