I filed the petition for my fiancee in early April, 2017, we are currently waiting on NOA2. I am concerned that the petition could be denied due my unemployment status of this year. I have not claimed any unemployment benefits in any way. My income before tax for 2016 was $20,000. I will have my parents as co-sponsor. Here are my questions:

1. How much income earned by my parents will be considered enough for I-134?

2. Will my unemployment status have any effect on the chance of visa getting denied?

3. Will it help our case if I can get a job before her interview?

Their income should be able to cover the deficit of yours to meet the 100% poverty guideline of the I-134. Now if you have no annual income this year, they will need to be able to cover the full amount. However, I suggest that you guys work it out based on the I-864's 125% instead because your fiancee would be AOS-ing right after marriage and the 125% will have to be met.

And no, unemployment isn't basis for visa denial. At most, you'll just need a co-sponsor(s).

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Being unemployed won't be an issue if you have a joint sponsor with sufficient income.

You can't combine income across sponsors (except with the I-864A for household members for an immigrant visa or AOS). Each sponsor must individually meet the requirements.
