International student in the U.K. applying for a tourist visa

Hi guys I've only just found this site through Reddit and I'm very glad I did.

I've read some helpful informations on here and it's nice reading up on others experience.

so my question is, I'm an international student in the U.K. And my boyfriend who is British just invited me for a trip to New York, it's only for a week.

I don't think a letter from my work and university initiates a strong tie back to the U.K.?

Evidence of funds, can I ask my dad to give me his statement of account or use my boyfriend's?

We already have a hotel reservation for a week so I'm guessing that needs to be added as supporting documents.

What else do I need to bring with me to show that I'm definitely coming back after a week as I've got my whole life rooted here!

And also I don't have any family in the Us neither do I have any friends.

I will appreciate any answer I can get? Thanks.

Proof of enrollment in your university back home as well as proof of employment are the best ways to show strong ties, actually, in the eyes of a customs official.

Enjoy your trip!

Unusual to be asked for any documents, which Country are you from?

Hi thanks for replying, I'm from Nigeria but I study in London.

if I don't show any documents, how are they going to verify that I'm genuinely going just for a week and flying back after that?

My boyfriend is British and he's got a good job that lets him afford our trip, does he need to show any document to match up with mine?

I have read horror stories on here of refusal and I'm beginning to fear same fate coming to me!

The title of the thread reads that she's applying for a tourist visa...if that's the case, she is required to show documentation along with her application to prove she is not intending to illegally overstay in the US with the boyfriend.

Hi there I haven't applied for a visa just yet, I'm enrolled in a U.K. University so I'm guessing that could suffice?

If you legally reside and study in the UK, then yes you would show proof of enrollment and continuing studies in the UK.

Nope, no documents are required, as Boiler points out they are rarely looked at. Theres a difference between bringing documents just in case they are asked for, and them being required.

OP there is not much you can do apart from take whatever evidence you have and hope for the best.

Let us know the result.

True.  There is a difference.

I am assuming they are probably going to ask for documentation based on her nationality.  Of course, I could be wrong but better safe than sorry and have something to show them isn't it?

Thanks so much for you valued response!

But do you think I've got a strong grounds to stand on here being an international student in London and being sponsored by my dad back in my home country?

I feel like I'm gonna be rejected based on the stories I've read on here.

my boyfriend is the one paying for the trip and even the spending money is coming from him

All you can do is apply and see, difficult to comment any further.

Begs the question what possible document could prove you will return.

It's funny because when I was applying for my Tourist Visa, the American Consulate in Rio de Janeiro actually suggested that anyone applying for a Tourist Visa should bring supporting documents that would prove my ties to Brazil (even though the only things that she looked at was my prove of work and an invitation letter from my now Husband).

I agree that sometimes they don't look at them, but I really recommend bringing everything that you have, it's better than been asked for something and not having it.

Good Luck!

I don't think there are any documents could "prove" that the person will go back, but a job, real estate property, money in the bank, enrollment in school for example could give the Consul the sense that this person will come back to all of it as opposed to someone that try to get a Tourist Visa with no money, no job, no possessions or any other things that could possibly make this person come back.

Just a thought 😉
