Knightsbridge Doctors Medical

Quick run down on my medical today -

 

Arrived 20 mins early to my appointment, was asked for all my paperwork as stipulated in the email (this is the email sent by Knightsbridge doctors when booking the appointment), Having done all the running around and fretting in the months previous I had it all ready. This is what is required as per the email -

 

a.    Original Passport or UK Driving Licence (photo card not paper licence) 
               We do NOT accept copies of ID 
b.    4 X Identical Passport style photos - UK or US size 
(we accept UK or US sized photographs)
c.    ACRO Police certificate (or a copy) dated within the last 12 months for anyone 16 years of age & over (if your police certificate is more than one page long please advise Knightsbridge Doctors ahead of your medical as you may need additional time with the Doctor. If you fail to tell us ahead of time you may be asked to come back to go over this for an additional fee). 
d.    Vaccination records - Please provide a vaccination record for the panel to look over on the day to advise if any further vaccines are needed. 
Please bring Red Books, if available.

f.    A Letter/Email from the embassy/NVC to confirm your case number and visa category 
g.     Summary of medical history from GP (NOT full medical records) and reports covering any medical conditions, disabilities, and prior serious illnesses you have been treated for or anything ongoing. This is a new requirement and may not yet be added to the checklist online or the US EMBASSY LONDON website. 
We will keep your medical on hold if you do not have it with you on the day of the appointment. Ask your GP for a Patient Summary. 
h.    If you wear glasses or contact lenses please bring them along to the appointment
i.    If you have any significant/ongoing/previous medical conditions please ensure that you bring a report from your GP/Specialist/Consultant regarding this; including, medication, prognosis, management etc. 
* If your medical notes are very extensive (more than 10 pages) please inform Knightsbridge Doctors before you come for your medical. This required extra time with the doctor to go through your notes. If you do not inform us of this, you will be charged for an appointment slot for the doctor to read these notes. 
 

 

All handed over and photocopies taken by the clerk, a clipboard with a 3 page form handed back and a urine sample container given and guided to the waiting room. Two jugs of water are placed her to get the subject ready for what is to follow, having filled up on water I began with the form, this was very straightforward Yes/No questions covering your past medical history with things such as if you've have had a fever or cough to mental health issues. You are instructed to complete page 1 while the latter pages are completed by the doctor overseeing the check. Urine sample and paperwork completed was submitted back to the reception lady

 

Within 5 minutes I was called in for an Xray, a very kind and polite gentleman took an xray of my chest which was a seemless procedure. The xray is generated on the screen infront of you so an untrained eye can tell if something is out of the  ordinary or alternatively the gentleman was happy to share all seemed in order. Then back to the waiting room after exchanging pleasantries.

 

Now its waiting for the medical check which happened approx 10 mins later, there are numerous rooms where I believe the various medicals take place. It began with signing paperwork authorising the medical and then looking over and double checking the answers I had written. I was asked if I had ever been arrested amongst other things. He went over the patient summary and the vaccinations history provided by my GP practice. I didnt have my redbook as I dont believe these were the norm in the 90's when I was growing up but my vaccination record sufficed.

 

Then it was regular checks like height, weight (to calculate BMI), blood pressure, pulse, blood tests, various prodding on different body parts - arms, arm pits, rib cage, top of the groin just beneath the waist, chest, back, legs and feet. I think this was all to see if there was anything out of the ordinary, maybe a lump of some sort. There was your regular eye test covering one eye and reading some letters from afar.

 

After this I was all done, paid the wonderful awe inspiring fee of £300 and bid farewell! I was done in around an hour although they suggest a time of 90 minutes. Regarding the letter from the embassy confirming the case number I submitted the letter written out to me that came at the same time as the NOA2. It stated my case number and immigration category and mentioned what steps to follow next.

Interesting! When I went last week there was no prodding of anything but my neck and stomach!

also didn't check weight and height (I had these filled in on the questionnaire they ask you to bring. So makes sense?). I should mention I've had no medical issues what so ever, so that might be why my exam was so ... "light"!

 

Vaccinations were covered by a nurse in another room after the doctors "interview" too. 

 

Word of warning to you all. My vaccination records stated a TD shot the year I was born but no month or day. So the nurse as per their standard procedure filled in the first of January (though because I was born in February she put 1st of February). 

Undoetunately for me this date is a couple of days before my birthday! Didn't check this at the medical but had to call to have it corrected. So don't forget to check the sheet they give you at the end  Might save you some time/hassle!

What, no visual genitals check anymore? 

 

Interesting that they now require a medical summary from your GP.... did they notify you of this in advance?

Yes, they have it up on their website although you'll find Knightsbridge doctors require it but USCIS do not mention it as being necessary. Knightsbridge doctors stipulate 'its a new requirement and if you dont have it your medical will not be processed'

Can I just ask how long after your NAO2 were you able to book the medical? and were there appointments available immediately (i.e. the next week) or did you have to book one weeks in advance?

You need your interview letter so once you get it, call immediately. Usually , you'll receive it around 8 weeks after your scan date (the latest date of when the nvc has confirmed they've recieved all your documents). 

 

After an noa2, you still have to submit all your documents after which you may still receive a checklist so the timelines can vary.

Megan & James are K1 applicants and the process is different for them

 

You can theoretically book your medical as soon as you have your LND number, Knightsbridge do want something with the LND on, either the letter sent to the beneficiary (if you're lucky) or they will accept a screenshot from CEAC.

Knightsbridge usually have appointments available, it does depend on how busy they are but you can usually get one for a week or 2.

Hey Megan!

We waited until the NVC case tracker said "ready" before booking the medical (about two weeks after NOA2 I think). Think I waited another day or two after that just to be sure... 

 

medical appointments were abundant. They had loads of availability within two weeks of booking. Check my timeline for details, we booked the quickest possible medical and interview. (+-1 or 2 days).

 

booked the medical before I got the letter in the post from the embassy. Luckily that arrived 3-4 days before my medical

Just to build on what everybody else said there were also plenty of slots available at short notice, I remember I called on the 17th asking to rebook my appointment (that was the following week) to anything the same week if there are cancellations and I was given a date 2 days later (19th of July), what I would say is make sure you leave 5 working days from then to your embassy interview to give enough time for the docs to arrive, although it should be a simple process of passing this data along the chain it can be laborious if your medical results arent there at the time of the interview.

Definitely solid advice. Just for the record, my medical results were all done in less than 2 days (including blood work testing). I only know this because I had to contact them because of an issue with my vaccination records. Spoke to the people at Knightsbridge and they said they use "Medical courier" to send the result to the embassy (which is about 20 minutes walk from Knightsbridge). So sending it shouldn't take more than a day.

Definitely better to be cautious though, not work risking  delaying the visa!
