Hello ,

i had an internship with the american embassy in france for a j1 visa on 6/23/2017 and the CO gave me the Ds5535 form to submit it.It s been 3 weeks that i wait for a new update but there is no response yet.My internship should ve started on 7/17/2017 which means i have a delay. If i don t get a response next week that means i can t do the internship anymore since my university has given me a deadline which is 8/1/2017.Anyone with similar situation? Is it true 90% of AO are resolved in 4 weeks? Anyone with additional infos , please provide it! Thank you guys.

Form DS-5535, Supplemental Questions for Visa Applicants, standardizes the collection of additional information, including social media usage, from immigrant and nonimmigrant visa applicants "who have been determined to warrant additional scrutiny in connection with terrorism or other national security-related visa ineligibilities." If a consular officer determines that a visa applicant warrants this additional scrutiny, the applicant will be instructed to provide the following information on Form DS-5535:

Not an obvious situation for somebody who is French.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Nobody really knows how long it takes because that is a new form. That is unfortunate. In the previous governments they really cared about making sure people with F-1/J-1/etc met their deadlines. Now they don't. In fact, the new government passed a resolution that consulates can take as long as they want for background checks, which actually allows them to just take longer with the excuse they are doing a background check regardless of whether they are actually doing it or not.

Odd

Seem to remember similar questions about AP under Obama.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
