Get Better Interview Date?

Hello all,

 

maybe this is embassy specific I am not sure but our interview date is over 60 days from now! How can we get a better interview date? 

 

The embassy (Santiago, chile) was just recently giving out dates 30-45 days in advance.

 

we are just ready for this process to be done.

There is not really a way to get a better date. You (US citizen) can send an email or call, but I doubt they will get you a better date. You will have to give a better reason than "I'd like to get this over with"; maybe say you'd like to get married close to the summer so that you can use your summer vacation for that (just an idea). 

 

It is strange that online DOS says that the wait time for appointments is 11 days. You could mention this in the email.

That's what I saw too that it said 11 calendar days.

 

I mean yes we have many reasons more than just we want this to be done with. My fiancée and I have to go through a marriage enrichment program with the church and we are totally going to miss that not to mention the date we were planning to get married is only 10 days after this interview date and I'd like to have him in the US to do some planning with me. 

 

I am here in his country right now Chile and originally thought we would come back together but I leave in 7 days.

Try to contact them on Monday. Tuesday is a holiday. Good luck! Hopefully, they will consider that you can in Chile and the reasons you mentioned, and move the date for you. Let us know what happens. 

 

I agree that 2 months is way too much wait, specially for a country like Chile.

K-1s are handled by the embassy's Immigrant Visa Unit despite being NIVs, so those timelines don't really apply. The immigrant visa timeline would be more accurate to go by.

 

Also, read the notes on the side:

" ‡ The All Other Nonimmigrant Visa wait time DOES NOT include K or V visa applications, which are processed similar to immigrant visas.  A, G, and NATO applications are excluded from these wait times, as they are processed separately. "

Update: We tried calling to set up fiancées medical appointment and they said that they needed the okay from the embassy first and that they do these appointments based on interview date. 

 

Then we called the embassy, operator said they do not take phone calls for these issues. 

 

Sent an email asking for a date closer to today's date for above reasons and they emailed back 10 mins later saying that there are no other appointment dates available earlier and that interviews are being scheduled at this time for October and November. I emailed back asking if there was a website I could check on or if I could check back periodically with them and they emailed me back saying that they will put me on a waitlist. 😑

 

Not sure I even believe them after all of the junk that USCIS lied about.

Bummer, any other ideas on how we can speed up the process here? 

 

Trying to plan a wedding and I keep telling the priest probably this date... that date passes... maybe this date ... that date also passes ... maybe this date .... and so on and so fourth.

Every embassy is different, of course, but they tend to state quite clearly that planning a wedding or booking travel in advance is not recommended, and as such not a reason to expedite your case. At this rate your best bet is to just be a pain and regularly inquire as to whether anybody has cancelled and left a slot free. If you can come up with a compelling reason as to why it might need to be brought forward, it's worth trying, but just trying to find a cancelled slot might be more fruitful.

Yes that is understandable however, I do not choose when the marriage enrichment program starts and and ends in my parish. 

 

I know we could get married legally and do a religious ceremony later but that is unacceptable for me and my family. What makes me mad is we waited 225 days to get through uscis and Nvc and now we wait over 60 days for the interview. I understand this process is more complex, but why do non-immigrant visas (aka someone who is not a US citizen) get priority of what a US citizen has requested in our own embassies? That seems backwards to me.

 

I am just going to keep messgaging them.

I gave up trying to rationalize this process a long, long time ago. The best thing you can do is remain persistent with the embassy and stay in regular contact. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a resolution soon, it's insane and unacceptable how long you've been waiting.

Lol yes that's what I should do as well! Might save me some frustration I'm a bit strong willed though 😂😂😂

Also interview date might be closer or further to the date you'll actually receive the visa. Sometimes, administrative hiccups delay the issuance. I would try to plan with your parish dates... And work on a plan b to get married within 90 days if you can't make it on time for the preparation classes.
