Hey folks, I am sponsoring my fiance coming to the US from the UK. He has his interview scheduled in a couple of weeks and we are frantically trying to get everything together for the I-134 supporting documents. Some places say you need last years tax return and some don't unless you're self employed (I am not). I was wondering if anyone knows for sure if this is necessary? I have my 2015 return, but its looking my 2016 may not be ready in time.

Im really nervous that this will set us back if its a requirement to have for the interview.

Please help me if you can!

If you do not have your 2016 tax return yet, you might want to forward your 2016'2 W2 to your fiance. That would be a good supporting document to reflect the last annual income :)

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Thanks KULto ATL for your reply. That's a really good idea, thanks! I just found out today a school I went to filled out my 1098 wrong which is jeopardizing our time frame.

It varies by embassy. In LONDON they do not require a tax return with an I-134. Positive.  An employer letter will satisfy them as proof of income. Can you get that as the best choice?

In other practical matters, your 2016 tax return was due to be filed in April. You are two months late. You will 100% need it for filing AOS so do get that done soon.

  • 5 weeks later...

I have a joint sponsor because although I am working full time and make enough for the 125% poverty guidelines, last year I only worked 15-20 hours a week so my tax returns do not reflect my current income.

It was suggested that I have a co-sponsor so I do. She is only willing to give me her 2016 and 2015 tax returns and the filled out i-134. Would this suffice? Our interview is in Havana Cuba.
