After approved CR1 and POE what's next?

Hi VJ family,

Now that my husband is approved his CR1 visa and soon for POE what do we file next?  Is it true that he will receive his green card one month after POE and do I have to file a I-751?  (removal of conditions). 

And can someone explain what exactly this is, the I-751?  Its a bit confusing to me.  Not sure why a removal of conditions is required.

You have to pay the Green card fee before he will receive the GC. It can take longer then one month.

 

The CR-1 visa is for people who have been married for less then 2 years and therefore he get a 2 year green card and when it expires (90 days before) he will have to apply for a 10 year green card therefore the ROC (removal of conditions)

 

So remember the dates and you have to send in a package with all kinds of evidence for your marriage.

It's down the road. You're not even eligible to file for ROC until 90 days before the GC's expiry date, like @Georgia16 said. If you apply before that time, they'll send your application back.

 

Apart from paying the GC fee (you do this online) and maybe having to apply in-person for a SSN, you guys are basically done for now! That's the beauty of the CR-1/IR-1 compared to the K-1. :luv:

Okay let me see if I got this correct.  Once my husband arrives we have to pay a fee for the green card and apply for a ss#  and then we will receive his greencard that is only good for 2 years but I have to be sure to file for ROC 90 days before it expires??

If he enters before Nov., then he will get the 2 year green card and need to go through ROC to prove the marriage was still bona fide. If he enters after that date, he will get a 10 year green card (no ROC needed).

He will need to pay the immigrant fee ($220) before they will mail the card. Then it will arrive in the mail. The stamp he gets when he enters the country acts as a temporary green card for 1 year.

If he travels after the 2nd anniversary he is automatically entitled to the 10 years greencard, which will save you a huge process of ROC, time an money spent. i know its around 5 months wait, but it's easier that way. Your call.

Coming from Ghana, and after a failed K1, I assume there was not that much time spent together, so while I totally agree to just take that couple more months a wait and avoid the headaches with the ROC, I also totally understand the wish to be together ASAP.
