I sent an original certified marriage license along with 2 other copies, stating that the marriage license was  filed with the court. The marriage certificate is just an unofficial paper to keep instead the marriage license. Although it is also signed by the judge and witnesses, its just for show and a nice souvenir. :)

I used G325a because of the I485 instructions. I didn't see any other requirements to replace that form. Our case was accepted, but we will wait for the approval or if we get an RFE. Fingers crossed! 😊

What USCIS wants is your marriage certificate, not your marriage license. The marriage certificate is what shows that you got married.

I've seen people submit copies of their certified marriage licenses. I think you should be okay as long as your marriage license shows important details like date of marriage, address and signature of officiant. Though I would advise getting the marriage certificate first since it's always better to follow the instructions ad closely as possible.

I will have to disagree on this one. The marriage license should already be filed by the court, signed by bride & groom, the judge & witnesses. It is also officially stamped and signed by the county clerk. Its not asking about the initial application, its the official marriage license. This shows that peticioner and beneficiary got married. No need to submit anything else

When I applied for ours, we got the marriage license application and a blank marriage certificate. I paid for an official marriage certificate and all I got back in the mail was a certified marriage license. I was expecting to see a certified certificate. I guess Washington is different.

I think it just really depends on the state and county you live in (: We waited for our marriage certificate (which only took two days so the wait was not very significant) to have a more official copy since the certificate had a stamp. I think as long as the paper shows the important parts (date, address, officiant signature, county clerk signature) regarding the marriage, one should be okay.

Yes that's what think so too. We all should be okay with just the certified marriage license. But if you can most definitely submit a certified copy of marriage certificate. I think the wording just misunderstood. But anything certifed with the information you said would be okay as well. I couldn't get a certifed certificate, so I just submitted the certified license and case was accepted. :)

yeah, as long as the county gives you an official stamped document about your marriage i think that's fine ;D
