I married a US citizen and then came back to the UK, can I re-enter the US on an F-1 student visa?

I visited Spokane WA in December 2016 and got married there to a US citizen. Then I returned to the UK to sort out finances while awaiting a spousal visa.

I felt I needed more direction in life so I started looking at college courses in Spokane and have set my heart on one.

Will my marriage affect my ability to use an F-1 visa and then adjust my status to permanent residency when my studies are completed?

When you go to your F-1 interview you'll need to declare your intent to adjust status.

I've done the F-1 route, it is SO MUCH cheaper to be a resident, why not do the spousal visa and then pay in-state tuition?

Good luck

Although money is of concern to me, time is more of one and I've read everywhere that spousal visas take much, much longer to process and go through. I don't think I can wait that long because of my mental health which is another concern in terms of the F-1 medical exam (along with my somewhat low BMI) I'm terrified, anxious and on edge about the whole thing I feel constantly sick to my stomach and I can't get my mind off it...

Thank you.

How did you manage to get an F1 with a USC spouse?

I haven't , I was wondering if I could because the college I am applying to says this is the route I have to take. I've told them I have family in the US but not been specific about it being my husband because then they might suspect an ulterior motive but I genuinely want to do this college course and I think as soon as possible is best because I'm so stuck in a rut and my mental health might deteriorate at any juncture.

You must declare that you have an American husband.  Hiding things could get you a misrep causing worse issues.  Student visas come with promises to return home as well as independent funding.  Please seek mental health help if you're not already

That was my intent when I got to the F-1 interview process. I will make it clear that I do not overtly intend to remain in the USA because this is something I am not sure about myself, I am just worried that they might misread the situation and accuse me of fraudulent behaviour.

You've already declared your intent to adjust on here.  That is indeed fraudulent. Seek a spouse visa

Then I phrased my question badly because I meant that I don't currently have the intent to reside in the USA but if I got better career opportunities as a result of my desired college course then it might transpire that I wish to adjust my status.

It might be that getting an F-1 approved when you already have a USC spouse could result in a denial. You can try and see what happens, but I feel they might suspect that you have immigrant intent even if you don't. It happens.

I thought as much.

Maybe I'll just give up altogether...

You are playing word games.  You already stated that you intend to adjust status.  What you are planning is immigration fraud.  Entering the US with a non-immigrant student visa with the intent to adjust.  You are not likely to get a student visa.
