Colombian Boyfriend Visiting USA

Hello,

I am a US citizen and invited my Colombian boyfriend (he is 23 years old and I am 24) to come stay with me for a month or so while I am out of school and only working, we have plans for him to meet my family and friends and to go sight seeing and camping. We met while I was studying abroad and we fell in love. I want to sponsor him and I have all the paperwork on my end that is necessary for that. He has financial ties and family ties that will prompt him to return to Colombia after this month, and I would also like to go visit his family and meet them eventually in the future. We don't want to get in any trouble, his intention isn't to work, we just want to be a part of each others' lives and continue our relationship and especially meeting each others' family is very important to both of us.

What is the likelihood that he will obtain a visitor visa? Is our case too weak? I don't want to lie or have him lie about anything...but some people say that having a girlfriend or boyfriend is something that creates ties and thus they will deny his visa at the embassy. I really wish it wasn't like that in this country. What is the best that I can do as the sponsor or invitee and what is the best that he can do as an applicant?

Thank you for any and all help!

Sincerely,

Lauren

An American cannot sponsor anyone for a tourist visa. He applies for a tourist visa on his own and finds out after paying the $165 fee and attending an interview.

Does he work, is he a student or have other commitments? Bottom line, he has to convince the CO that he will return after visiting you.

Do not lie

Apply and find out, he only has the fee at risk, nobody posting on here will be making the call.

No sponsor for tourists and of course most people who visit the US do not know anybody here.

Why are you both lying about that? I already filled out the paperwork and everywhere I have checked, even calling the office where I live has said that I can, in fact, sponsor a visitor. I think you are both trolls on this site. I've seen this before.

We love lying on VJ?

Or perhaps somebody is misleading you? Sponsorship is for immigrant visa's.

I know of no such service? Who exactly did you speak to?

If that is ***removed*** then they are sadly know for causing shall we say confusion on this matter and others, mainly it seems a site for Indians on Work Visa's.

Some Countries do have such issues, US is not one of them. Obviously if you needed a sponsor to vsiti a country there would not be many tourists.

Trust me , if your boyfriend goes to the US consulate for a visitor visa interview with an affidavit of Support from you,( which as I said before is not required)  it was be a big red flag that he has no ties to his home country and his visa application will be denied.

It is a extremely common misconception (and often asked question) that a person can sponsor a visitor visa. We here don't know where it stems from but we often get this type of question here and on other immigration forums. No one is lying to you.

Think of it this way... millions on people visit other countries everyday. No sponsors needed. If you want to take a selfie on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris,  you don't need to personally know a French citizen to sponsor you with a affidavit of support.

As already mention, he has to show that he has ties of his own.
