Not going to marry in US do I need to cancel K1 visa

Hello everyone,  So here is the deal....my fiancee and I were set to get married in the US when I was still in the Air Force.  I ended up getting out of the Air Force and in the process accepted a position as a contractor in Okinawa Japan (where she is from)  So my question is this....she has an approved K1 Visa but now that I live in Okinawa we want to marry here.  She is worried that there will be some issues if we don't use the Visa or somehow cancel the visa.  Will there be any issues?  Is there anything I need to do with regards to the Visa?  We want to marry in March here in Okinawa.  As always thanks!!!

There will be no issues if you cancel the K1 or don't use it. Just send a letter explaining the change in your situation and that you will stay and marry your fiance in her country. 

 

Later, if things change again and you want to return to the US, you will just need to file for a spousal visa.

If your not going to use a visa that your processing for, its ALWAYS better to cancel the visa. In the future no problem's because you took the time to cancel. You maybe asked at your next interview why but it's easy to explain it away. 

 

Send a letter to USCIS asking for the K1 be cancelled.  Include as much information so they can locate your file.

As mentioned already there is no problem if you cancel your K1. However you do have to file for spouse visa if she wants to come to US.  Good luck :dance:
