Suggestions for a pre paid Bank card for PI use

any suggestions on this as I dont want to take my "states" bank cards.

You can get a visa card that's fillable at Dollar Tree stores or American Express at Walgreens. Both are refillable.

 

I used my stateside ATM with no problems.

 

I bank with Wells Fargo and used my wifes

account in Philippines that she had. I transferred money to her account an number of times withdrew the money when I needed it.

Dont know why i'm concerned about my state side card, I guess I want to use something that if its lost or stolen I'll have less worries about it. I use WF also, although I dont have the luxury of having another account to transfer to. 

 

I am trying to figure ways to minimize any $$ % fees for currency exchange.

To send a transaction its simple with WF. $5.00 to send and most times their exchange rate is very competitive with others. Of course not with the street vendors. But I feel safe using WF.  Send what you think you will spend then you will keep your expenses down. Once the money is in the Philippines bank it shouldn't cost you anything to withdraw

 

 

 

 

Find a family member who has a bank account in the Philippines and use it when you travel. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Does the $$ transfer have to be WF to WF?  or will work with any PI banking institution?

You have to set it up before you leave so that you can transfer money into it. It's really easy just go to WF and set it up. You have to have the account number when you go there to set it up. If I remember correctly it has to be a BDO account.

Hi everyone good day to all, I use my WF EXPRESS SEND ACCOUNT to send money to my ACCOUNT a few times a yr so when me and the wife go back on vacation I already have it there waiting to ENJOY

Remitly has NO transfer fee and the exchange rate is one of the better out there.  Only one I use now, even for depositing money into our BDO account in the Phils.

I have to go to WF in the morning anyway..I will talk to my banker (who is a Filipina) about this..

Having some issues setting up my BDO account online..once I do, then I can see my banker to do the rest from their end. The remitly seems easy enough.. I tried calling BDO to no avail, any suggestions? not sure what account I am trying to set up, either a checking, savings acct.

If you do the REMITLY route, you can add the BDO information after you are in the Philippines.  (being you are having a few issues with onlin BDO).
