You have to resolve the issue before you leave. If you can't resolve it, you shouldn't go. Obviously, your aunt has no right to tell you how long you must travel, and should not have bought the ticket without first checking the dates with you. It's just nonsensical and plain stupid at best, if not also malicious and evil.

If it was me, I would pretend I am going to the airport on the day of the flight, come back a couple of hours after the flight, and just say: "I changed my mind". That way, she will have no way of getting her money back, which is a good punishment for fascism and stupidity.

I am curious to what you are going to do if the Border Agent at POE only gives you a month. Just because you say you want to stay 5 months or 2 months. It's not up to you how long you get to stay. They can even deny you entry completely.

Seriously people, doesn't this story sound a bit off? A strict aunt demands that her nephew/niece tours the U.S. for the full 5 months before being allowed to go back. She'll pay for 5 months but not for 2 months. It sounds to me like OP wants to know if that story will work at a POE. It won't. They've heard them all. Their answer will likely be "we'll take care of your return ticket".

Her Aunt bought her a ticket for free, is also paying for her trip!  We dont know the full story behind why she bought a 5 month ticket.

You may not see it girl but you are being ungrateful by expecting your Aunt to foot the bill for date change.  Now that Aunt has refused the planning to go sneaky and blackmail Aunt while in the US to pay for date change is so wrong!

dont go if you cant afford to sort in advance.

My aunt has already said should I stay the 5 months she will pay the full trip,  but because I don't wanna stay the full 5 months she won't coz she thinks I am ungrateful for refusing her gift.  It a culture thing I so I don't expect you to understand,  but that's her ultimatum.  $3000 is enough for me to stay for 2 months

I truly wish,I had an aunt like yours.

I think the aunt has bigger plans. Is there some sort of arranged marriage on the cards?

What job do you do that makes your aunt think that 5 months is a reasonable amount of time to take off just like that?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Well I thought like one I got there I would call her and tell I need to come home and she would then arrange for me to do so.  One way ticket is like double the price. She would pay for me to stay the full 5 months coz it "her gift"  but now I am like disrespecting

Stop being foolish and upsetting your family. People change airline tickets every day.

You need to know:

Each airline ticket has a class .... a letter code which they relate to airmiles, cost of ticket etc. You need to know what class ticket you have. It will be on the booking confirmation and you read the airline T&Cs.

You need to know when you telephone the airline, the booking agent will try to "sell" you a higher level class. A ticket change based on availability for your class should cost c.USD$2-300 and can be less. DRINK LESS BEER AND GAMBLE LESS IN VEGAS...... still here?

Go on the Internet and check return flights on a Tuesday and Wednesday before your time to return home / visa expiry. Avoid Friday, Sat and Sun if you are on a business route. Look for the cheapest.

THEN call the airline to change, you know the flight prices, you do not need a one way and can tell the call center person, I need a class ?? ticket return on either ,,,,, or ,,,,,, date.

IF the price of the ticket is close to yours, you pay the extra and the change fee.

........... I do not work for the airlines, I do not travel on business, it is easy to know from experience on long distance trips to see family which change for different reasons.

MOD - please close, this has 0 to do with visa immigration.

I disagree.  This discussion is exactly what VisaJourney is about.  And the plane ticket wouldn't be an issue if a visa overstay or denial by immigration wasn't in play here.  The OP has every right to be concerned.

And about the unnecessary name calling in this thread.  If the OP really is 15 or 16 good for her!!  How many 15 or 16 year olds have the intelligence to be worried about border and immigration issues?  Surely more conscientious than her aunt!  The aunt was very selfish and/or irresponsible in her actions and now the OP has to bear the consequences.  This is not an issue of being ungrateful or not for what a rich aunt did.  What it is however, is an issue about making sure the OP has the option in the future to enter the USA if she wishes to for whatever reason.  And if the Aunt and family can't understand that too bad for them.  The Aunt was too stupid to take this into consideration BEFORE buying the ticket and should be gracious enough to change it.  The OP is more than reasonable in her stance here.

Correct me if I am wrong but I saw nothing indicating the OP is 15 or 16.  Just seems to be some implied assumptions here.  But something does not seem right here.  Nothing was mentioned by OP about missing work or school (depending on OP's age), only about not wanting to spend more than 2 months in USA.

Interesting discussion, and a bunch of assumptions. Meanwhile OP hasn't bothered to come back and clear the air, so to speak.

Aunt purchases 5-mo ticket without checking with niece first, trying to sneak in below any 6-mo stay ques at poe? OP did express curiosity about a 6-mo stay. Sure sounds like aunt got something up her sleeve. What country?
