Hello everyone!

After checking the official website of USCIS and checking the instructions they have in their website as for how to fill out the form I-134 and what we are supposed to show along with the form, a question in my head came up.

I saw that without a doubt you have to show:

1. Statement of an office bank (with date, amount last year..etc)

2. Statement from the employer (with salary and all the information needed)

Now it specifies that ONLY IF self employed, then you have to show tax returns. Is it true? I hear from people being asked to show tax returns but..why does it says then IF self employed, separating it as from the other two points (1 and 2)?

My fiance until last year (summer) he was an student in university, he had a job but enough to pay his rent while in university and after he graduated, he got employed by the school district as a full time teacher.

Would love some answers to help me with this mess! haha

Thank you!

Hi Andsco,

I´m not sure the answer to your question, but am in a similar situation and would be interested to know.  From what I´ve read from books and reading this site, it is highly recommended to bring 3 years worth of tax information with you to the interview.  They may not ask for it, but it is good to be prepared.

But truly I am not sure what the answer to your question is.

Good luck!

Hello!!

My question was if the tax returns are needed. If you check the instructions for I-134 found on USCIS website, it says that ONLY IF you are self-employed, you need to provide them but my fiance is employed by the school district as a teacher (AKA not self-employed)!.

Yes, my understanding is that technically they are not needed if not self-employed, but it is a good idea to have them with you anyway.  But, I am fairly new to this and would love to hear what more experience users may have to say.

I brought only 2015 tax returns and the completed form along with bank statement and employer letter.  None of that was asked for at my interview.  Good luck!
