October 2016 Filers of I-130 for Parents of U.S Citizens

I am starting this forum to communicate with others in my same situation.  I filed forms I-130 for my parents back on October 12, 2016 to the Chicago lockbox and received NOA1 with a priority date of October 13,2016 a few days later in the mail for both parents showing that their cases are being processed in the Nebraska center. The last update in USCIS case status profile is that the cases were last updated or "touched" on October 18, 2016.  My parents live in El Salvador and I recently became a U.S Citizen and filed I-130 forms for them shortly after (October 12 as I mentioned above).

I have not received any updates about the cases and it will soon be 4 months since I filed them.  I would like to know who else filed this form for their parents around the same time as me and whose processing center is also Nebraska like mine so they can share their experience with me and others in the same situation.  Much appreciated...

Thank you Monica, it is comforting to know that I can communicate with someone going through the same same frustrating and nerve wracking process where we have no choice but to play the waiting game.  The USCIS' mandate is to process these within a 5 month period so we are very close to getting our cases approved and moved to the NVC.  I will post all of my updates as soon as I get them also.  Can you create your timeline like I did so that it serves to inform others about how this process goes?  I don't see too many IR-5 case situations being posted where it involves central americans and mexicans beneficiaries so I want to provide them with at least mine so that they can use it to gauge their own progress and get an idea of what they should expect. Thanks and good luck to all

Good morning. That is correct, we were also told the NOA2 should arrive after 5 months. So as you mentioned, at this stage it is a waiting process. I can share that I also went through this process last year, so I am familiar with the steps involved. My husband petitioned for my green card (IR-1) and the NOA2 arrived 6 months after the NOA1. I was in a different situation b/c I had a 2YR home residency rule to fulfill before my visa interview. So my process took longer, little over 16 months, because the lawyer waited 3-4 months before sending my paperwork to NVC. So the entire process should have been around 12 months. Feel free to contact me or send me a message if you have any questions along the way. I'd be happy to share information from my personal experience.

Hi Sid. Congratulations, you are on to the next step. So your case will be transferred to the NVC - National Visa Center in order for your dependent to obtain their immigrant visa at the US Embassy in your country. The transfer should take 1-2 months. Then you can pay the fees and send the next set of documents. After that it will take them a few weeks or months to review the case and then you'll receive your appointment letter with the interview date ... Did your I-130 also go to the Nebraska Service Center?

Yes Nebraska Service Center, and the I-797 arrived today as well. Is there a timeline for the process, like there was for my wife to fill in the dates?

Hi Sid, congratulations! I am hoping to receive the same great news soon.  you are very luck because you filed the application more than a month later than us and you have been approved already.  You're probably looking at about 5 months till your mom has her visa in hand and on her way to be with you.  It's a very fast process. I wish it was the same for siblings.

From your answer I understand she is living abroad? The timelines can vary according to your mother in law's country. Their US Embassy may have more availability and sooner interview dates.

Sometimes it helps to view other cases from your home country (here in visajourney) to have an idea of the timelines. For us in Mexico we have very long waits. Pur U.S. embassy in Cd Juarez will process thousands of visas per day. It is the largest U.S. embassy in the world, so we will be waiting for several months. Philippines should be shorter.
