On December 23th my online case status was updated to " We scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice. "  It said that my interview is on January 31st  and to please follow the instructions on the notice. Ever since I have been waiting and waiting to get that letter at my mailing address which is a P.O. Box, (same mailing address since beginning of application) and today I login to check my case status and it says

Notice Was Returned To USCIS Because The Post Office Could Not Deliver It

On January 12, 2017, the Post Office returned a notice we sent you for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number MSCxxxxx, because they could not deliver it. This could have a serious effect on your case.  Please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice immediately. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

After immediately doing an e-request like they said, I got an email saying I should hear back from them by February 8th 2017!! that's a full week after my interview,  :cry:and I can't show up to an interview without that notice, I don't even have the time my interview was supposed to take place. I called them and it was no help, told me to do e-request and wait for copy in the mail :crying::crying::crying: has anyone had to deal with this? Is there a faster way to get that notice? why did it happen in the first place? I have been getting all other notices in that PO Box for the entire process I'm seriously freaking out :cry::cry::cry:  does this mean my interview has already been moved? what do I do?

Two things could happen: 1. The AoS process could be delayed and 2. Since it is not of your fault, you will be rescheduled. USCIS' has a strict  policy when it comes to applicants not attending interview scheduled. However, based on the fact that it was returned or undelivered and can be substantiated by USCIS; you have no worry. Were there several attempts made by the post office? Or maybe, you were not available during those delivery attempts. Let me know.:)

First of all, @delilah2016 and @chars, Thank you for your kind support and encouragement.

I am extremely happy you let you know that I received a copy of my interview notification today through the mail. :D:rolleyes: Same address as before, only God knows what happened before.

Just a note to those that might be in the same situation, don't despair. As soon as you realize there is a problem follow the instructions,   It's scary and frustrating but YOU MUST CALL THEM AND BE PATIENT. If the first call is not helpful, call again and try again I talked to at least two 2nd tier agents and another handful of other agents before they offered a surefire solution.  One of the 2nd tier agents asked me to wait until 7 days before my interview (that is tomorrow Jan 23), and if I hadn't received the copy I requested (through the e-request ) by then he offered to give me a case number where he wrote down instructions to Fax me a copy if necessary. I am very glad I received the notice in the mail and I won't have to call them again, and I am even more grateful that this was caught in time before my interview.  Good luck to all of you!!! and fingers crossed it all goes well January 31st ^_^

Did you ever find out why it was not returned?? I just got the same notice and I'm freaking out! Was it automatically resent? Or did you get the notice on the 22nd because you did the e-request? Also, did you phone the post office to fix the issue? Help/reassurance would be fantastic!

@msw1992 sorry I didn't get the chance to read your post before. I sincerely hope your case is all good by now .

To answer your question, No. I never got a "reason" as to why it was lost. I dealt with USCIS only. I never called USPS because I felt like the post office would be the most frustrating dead end, since they would probably "Start an investigation" but couldn't send me a copy of what they lost let alone find what they lost <_<.

Yes, I did receive a "copy of interview letter" BECAUSE I placed the e-request as soon as I realized there was a problem AND pestered the USCIS agents on the phone. Multiple calls, multiple 1st tier agents will tell you that all you should do now is wait for the copy, don't despair. Call again and try again, you WILL get a different agent.  I talked to at least two 2nd tier agents and another handful of other 1st tier agents, I did not desist until they offered a solution to the "what if it doesn't come in time?".  One of the 2nd tier agents asked me to wait until 7 days before my interview, and if I hadn't received the copy I requested (through the e-request ) by then, he offered to give me a case number where he wrote down instructions to Fax me a copy if necessary. Knowing that I had the option to request a faxed copy made it a little easier to wait and see IF the copy would come through the mail in time. and it came eight days before my interview.

FYI, 6 days after my interview I received my greencard without any problem at all. Same address  oh USPS  <_<

Good luck and best wishes!!!
