Well, I had my interview today and we were approved!

For all of you and your fiancé/fiancées still waiting for the interview, you'll be fine! The staff are all lovely, everyone is really friendly and pleasant. I won't say don't worry, 'cause you will and I think there'd be something wrong with you if you didn't, but assuming you've no red flags, you'll be absolutely fine :).

Yay!  Congrats!  That is so exciting!  I know you can't wait to be with your love. :)  Do you have your travel plans set or is that something you will work on now?

So happy for you guys and so glad the interview went well!

I'm originally from Hampshire, about an hour South West of London, but spent much of my adult life living in London. I am now living in Wilmington NC.

Although it didn't feel like it at the time (k1 NOA2 was taking around 7 months back when I did it) the immigration process really wasn't too bad. There wasn't any point where I didn't think I'd get the visa, or didn't think it was worth the worth or money.

I lived in the US for a year as an intern 20 years ago, and also in the United Arab Emirates for 3 years, so I'm used to being away from the UK, and knew it wouldn't be a problem.

There isn't too much I miss about the UK to be honest. I do miss being close to Europe however (my brother lives in Lisbon, so I spent a lot of time on the other side of the channel). I can get marmite in one of the local grocery stores and there is also a British store just outside town, but I've never been there. As has been mentioned already, the bacon here is different to the stuff we get in the UK and the sausages are too. I need to find a good butcher where I can get more english style ones.

I also miss indian food. We have a couple of indian restaurants here, but they just aren't the same as back home - you can't quit the pub at 11pm and go to an indian for another pint and a curry. I also miss walking home from the pub and getting a doner kebab on the way.

Negatives? The US healthcare system is terrible and people's driving skills are awful (most have no idea that there are flashing orange lights on each corner of their car that they can use to indicate a change of direction). People are paranoid about "terrorists", but not bothered by the tens of thousands shot each year by their fellow Americans, which they barely notice. Religion is much more widespread that the UK, and when people win 5 bucks on a scratchcard, its because Jesus loves them and he helped them out. If a kid dies of cancer though, its not because Jesus was too busy helping out with their scratchcard win. There are a lot of signs that say "Jesus Saves" but he obviously doesn't save enough, because the churches are always asking for money.

Hello All!  Just checking in to see if there has been any more exciting news for anyone in February.  I know Littlewingxx got approved at the end of January but has anyone else had any progress with their cases?   We are still waiting for our NOA2.  Hoping the days of waiting are coming to an end soon though!

I have enjoyed reading all of your post in here and the advice from those who have come from the UK!  Any tip to give my fiancé a little piece of home when he gets here is great. :)

Yeah, my interview is on January 31st so I'm on the final stretch now! I'm actually feeling almost excited about it now because it's so close!

I think I'm pretty lucky where I'm going because there's an amazing candy store in Portland that carries a lot of U.K. Sweets, as well as stuff from other countries too. We also discovered a quaint little Scottish store too that has Dairy Milk...my fiancé absolutely LOVES fruit n nut...and Tango, Irn Bru, polo mints, macaroon bars and a whole bunch of other stuff, so we're covered for the sweet stuff! We'll have a bit of a drive to get supplies of bacon and sausages and stuff though, but like you guys incorporating it into a weekend away sounds like a cool idea. We have pretty good cheese out here, so I won't be missing out too much on that front!

Hi there! Scrolling through old UK threads and stumbled across this comment. I'm in Portland and live very close to the Scottish store...but don't know about the amazing candy store that carries UK Sweets? My partner is moving here from England sometime in mid-May, and we are both moving to the east coast together...but I'd love to stock up on a couple of her favorites as a surprise for when we meet up in Boston!

Hey! It's called Rocket Fizz, and you'll have to forgive me but I can't remember exactly where it was in Portland! It's in downtown, near a bunch of food trucks and I remember there was a Target on the corner not far from it - not sure if that rings any bells. I'll ask my fiancé where it is exactly :D.

Thank you so much! I'm not much of a candy person myself so I don't know any of the candy specific shops around. It's at an easy location to get to downtown - just looked it up. Thank you so much!

You're very welcome :)

They had loads of stuff that I was very excited to see, as well as stuff from other countries as well. I was super excited to see they had Irn Bru and Lucozade, as well as Walnut Whips and British Snickers.
