Hi

I am about to have my embassy interview, but we've just found out my military fiancé is now deploying for 6 months, which leaves us no time to get married. Does anyone know if it would be possible to get an extension on the 6 month validity of the visa, due to the circumstances? We enquired at the London embassy & yesterday I was contacted by them, the representative informed me I could marry & leave the US while he is deployed so long as I return within 12 months, however I'm pretty sure this is incorrect information?

Thanks!

No thats not accurate.  Can you reschedule your interview for a few months?  After the interview you normally have 6 months to enter (6 months from medical date) so if you redo your medical too you'll be okay to wait until he returns.

If you have a definite date on when he leaves for deployment you could also ask for the visa to be expedited back to you so you can rush over, get married, and start the AOS right away.

Not possible, and what the embassy told you was nonsense.

Rescheduling your initial interview for 4-5 months down the line is probably the best route; you would likely need a new medical performed also.

Thanks NikLR, the I-797 expires next month, we would have the reapply for that wouldn't we

No you just ask them to extend the expiration. They normally do this automatically to whenever your interview date is anyhow but it doenst hurt to ask.
