Hello Everyone!

We read that it's better to apply for the beneficiary's SS before marriage. This is fine, but we plan to marry a few days after he arrives (for religious reasons). Everyone indicates that it's best to apply for SS 10 days into POE. What should I do? Please help. Thank you!

Apply the day after he has arrived, the i-94 should be available by then.

Bring birth certificate, passport, SSN application and the i-94.

Thanks Scandi! But, I've been reading about this SAVE Database that the SS reps use...and they say wait at least 10 days because he won't be in the system until then. Do you know if this is true?

No forget about the save database, you won't find anything there anyway. Just look for the i-94 and print it.

Ok...and where do we find the i-94? Is the i-94 something we complete or is it something that comes in an email to us?

Once he arrives you can start checking if his info is available there, and then you just print it.

The main reason to apply before getting married is for 1. Some women like to take on spouses name and using the new last mane messes with the database. 2. The odd person at the SS office think that getting married voids the visa/I-94. It's usually better to try another office then explain how it does not.

Also yes the save system is looked at for matching the names and it's not always up to date that is why many say wait.
