Was anybody annoyed about Merryl Streep's political comments on the Golden Globe Awards last night?

 

Personally, I have no problem with people having political opinions, but there's a time and place and an awards show is not the place.

I agree. She went there to accept an award, for acting, which is the reciting of words other people have written. Her 'celebrity status' doesn't give her any degree of political acumen in the least. And really, what did her little turn in front of the mike actually achieve? I mean other than making her the darling of elitist Hollywood. She also disrespected her industry and the viewing public by using the Golden Globe Awards' ceremony to share her 'opinion',  as if what she had to say was so urgent and momentous, that America ought to fall at her feet and straighten up and fly right. The hipocracy of some of what she said beggars belief.

Most of those people at the Golden Globe are one bad break from doing low budget porn. Now they are advocates on how society should run.

 

I agree there is a time and place for it, not when your job is to entertain people.  She also seemed to try to rag on the NFL and MMA fighting as well.

I didn't see it so I can't comment on what she said.  However I do agree that political statements are best saved for your own personal time.

i think its pretty obvious that trump and co will use any excuse in the book to discredit criticism. streep got to give a speech and i don't think there are any laws (yet) prohibiting people in particular professions (hollywood) from speaking freely at such events. i think it's awesome that trump is so easy to bait and no one on his team has figured a way to babysit his twitter properly. the upcoming trump crash and burn is going to be glorious.

but i think just about everyone with a brain called it last night, as soon as she gave the speech - everybody was waiting for trump to bite. which of course, he did.

Let's also remember that the republican God of Regan was an actor.

the kicker is the knowledge that if streep had said how wonderful life is now that lord trump is emperor, he'd have boasted on the twitter about how the best actress in the entire galaxy thinks he's awesome. insecure alpha males are as predictable as the sunrise.

Out of touch Celebrities shilling for Hillary are part of the reason Trump got elected.  People like her are using to everyone groveling at their feet and sucking the oxygen out of a room when they enter it . When someone actually stands up to them, they can't handle it.

 

Thank god we have tweet and facebook, so Great men like Trump can bypass the lame stream biased media .

wait a minute, it would totally make more sense if you were talking about trump rather than streep. when did trump stand up to streep and she couldn't handle it?

you guys need to start thinking before you type, trump is the one who clearly can't take criticism. trump was criticized for making fun of a journalist's disability and he is still trying to lie and act like that didn't happen, even when the whole thing is recorded. 

 

i agree with you on thanking god for trump's twitter. it's going to be his downfall.
