Sorry if these get posted here a lot. Just can't find specific answers to these questions. The search feature produces too many results, my google-fu needs some work probably

 

Anyway, just two for now.

 

For the background check, does it have to be an official RCMP office that does it or can the City of Winnipeg do it? How long does it take, what did it cost?

How much does the medical examination fee come out to? How and when does it have to be paid for?

Any police or the commissionaires can do the name check (or fingerprint check if needed.)  It varies on the time frame.  I had my name check in about 20 minutes but others have to wait a week or two.  As they're valid at Montreal for 1 year, go ahead and get it now.  Mine was $50 but others are more or less. 

 

The medical has changed prices over the years so it's best to check with the doctor giving the medical.  Generally about $300 though.  More if you get vaccinations there vs with your local health clinic.  There are 4 doctors but I will assume by your location (Winnipeg?) that the beneficiary will either be travelling to one near Toronto or Medisys in Montreal.   Each one as a different time frame for how long it takes to get the medical back too, so it's good just to contact these doctors to find out which suits your needs and budget the best.
