Christian Europe? Don't know that many Europeans who are considering themselves Christians. More like Atheist Europe.

Religion in Russia is a joke. Trust me, people are basically atheists/secularists who wear gold crosses. Empty rituals propped up by the State as a propaganda tool essentially. Orthodoxy has always had it's problems, but it's even weirder and more warped in contemporary Russia in my opinion. Oh, and it's INSANE how many Hare Krishna people there are here!! I've met more insanely religious Hare Krishnas here (including in my in-law family!) than I ever have Christians.

 

Just like the anti-American propaganda: turn on the TV and hear about how evil the US is. Go down any street in a major Russian city and see endless chains like McDonalds, KFC, etc, everyone wearing jeans, drinking Coca-cola, and buildings plastered with ads for Hollywood movies. The church essentially has the same function here: it makes the government look good, but plays basically no role in the daily lives of Russian people whatsoever.
