Hi everybody.I have a question.I am U.S citizen and I will apply for k1 visa for my fiancee .I have enough income to bring her here which is little over 30.000 a year.But I don't have a health insurance.Is this gonna be a problem for us or not I want to know.I want to enroll the obama care but they are telling me I need to pay 255 every month.This is a lot for me. I cant afford it.Is anybody can asnwer me here.Thanks

if you can not afford health care, you will be fined on your taxes. At the beginning of each year you will file your taxes and if you didn't have insurance for part of the previous year, then you'll end up being fined unless you make below a certain amount of income. So having no insurance is not a big problem, but either way you'll pay for something. Government fine or insurance.

yes, I am gonna penalized 695 .But If i want to enroll I need to pay 255 a month,This is a lot.So It wont be a problem whether I have a health insurance or not.Thanks for answer

Yes it is good then.I prefer paying penalty instead of paying 255 every month.Now I am preparing documents for k1. Hopefully I file them next month

It will be more for in penalties for both of you not having insurance. $ 225 is a decent premium cost for health care and I would not pass that up.

I made less and paid $450 at one time because the consequences of not having health insurance were to risky for me.

Perhaps you can cut corners elsewhere in your budget. It will not be a problem immigration wise to not have health insurance

but it is one of many good bona fide evidences for AOS and ROC later in the process for her to be on your insurance.

If you can't get health insurance through your employer then she would be eligible for ACA with a NOA1 from filing AOS later.

Sometimes Obamacare is cheaper for two and sometimes it isn't.

AOS send : May 12, 2015, received May 14, 2015 USPS priority

Email &text : May 18, 2015, check cashed May 19,2015, return receipt May 21, 2015 stamped USCIS Lockbox, NOA1 (3x) May 22,2015

Biometrics : June 1, 2015 letter received for appointment June 8, 2015, successful walk-in June 1, 2015

RFE : June 12, 2015 for income not meeting guideline. Income does ( ! ) exceed guideline.

RFE response : June 26, 2015 returned with a boat load full of financial evidence.

UPDATE: July 5, 2015 updated on all 3 cases, RFE received June 30, 2015.

Service request : Aug 12, 2015, letter received that it will be processed within 90 days from receipt of RFE.

UPDATE: Aug 24, 2015, EAD card being produced/ordered. ( 102 days from AOS receipt day and 55 days from RFE response received.) Thank you Jesus !

Emails : Aug 24, 2015, EAD approved, EAD card ordered.

Renewal EAD in production notification text and online, expedite successful 4 days after RFE request response was faxed, Aug25mailed,Aug29received.

Sept. 21 Interview, 2 hour interview, we were separated and asked about 50 questions each for an hour each. IO was firm but professional, some smiles.
Several service requests made, contacted Senator and Ombudsman. Background checks still pending.
July 21, 2017 HOME VISIT.  Went well. Topic thread in AOS forum.
Waiting to skip ROC and get 10 yr GC due to over 2 year while pending AOS
AOS APPROVED Oct. 4, 2017 * Green card in hand Oct 13, 2017 !!!!!

First K1 denied after 16 month of AP. Refiled. We are a couple since 2009. Not a sprint but a matter of endurance.

That's not too bad for health insurance actually. If you say you make $30,000 annually, my husband makes a little less and we pay $300 something a month for health insurance.

What happens if your fiance comes here and she gets sick? Its cheaper to pay health care than medical bills.

i call tomorrow again if they have cheaper plan.I am trying to save money now for wedding,Its the problem and i will pay everything for her like visa fee air fare and wedding.I need to save money in a short time

All plans I looked at don't kick in at $0. Most had between $5000-$10000 before kicking in... The cheaper the insurance the higher this was. So the effective cost of actually getting help when you need it seems it would be much higher..

$225? Sounds like a steal man. Try the nearly $700 a month I shell out, or the $1400 a month his employer was offering (man that insurance was like pure Gucci stuff, shame we had to turn that down).

If you don't have insurance OP, as you know, you'll have to pay the penalty fine, that will go for you and your lady. It may be $695 per year now, but that is slated to increase. Of course that is still cheaper than the monthly premiums as you know (and those deductibles will get ya). In addition you need to weigh if not having health insurance is actually worth it in the long run. You'll be having a wife to take care of now, and not just you. What happens if there's an accident, a pregnancy, or if one or both of you become very ill?
