this forum has been helpful all the way

I am filling my ds160 and I come across question that is confusing which is " application receipt/filing number".

I am wondering if they are talking about my case number or my receipt number.

thanks for your brave reply in advance

It is referring to the USCIS case number, the one that starts with WAC if your file was transferred to the California center. If you hover over the question mark/explanation next to it, it tells you this explicitly.

However, I made a mistake and put down the NVC case number, the one that starts with the embassy code, but had no issues at all. I believe it is used to link your DS-160 with your petition somehow so either one can work.
