NOA for I-485/biometrics has maiden name, is this normal?

Hello.

We sent in the I-485 along with the I-131 and I-765. The NOA that came for the I-485 was sent using my wife's maiden name, not her married name. The NOAs all just came in the mail yesterday, and we scrambled to look at our I-485 copy to see if we somehow screwed up something, but the name was entered properly on the forms. The NOAs for the I-131 and I-765 were both addressed to her correctly with her married name, just the I-485 NOA was wrong.

Is this a normal thing, or should we be contacting USCIS to correct it? It just seems like so much can go wrong, we sure don't want to be starting off with a problem.

Thanks!

Similar issue.

You should get the name corrected, otherwise the green card could be issued in maiden name instead of married name.

Thanks, I had seen that thread also, but I didn't want to post my question in there as our issue was a bit different. I guess I'll be on terminal hold with USCIS tomorrow.

Thanks, that gives me some hope. Was there anything else that you needed to do for the name correction? Also, I see in your timeline that you recently did your biometrics. How was that experience, much to it?

No just called, gave receipt number, asked, she took my information and gave me a reference number...

When I checked on mycase on uscis website the next day it was already fixed.

Biometrics took mê like 10 minutes... they wanted ID and marriage certificate. I filled out a Form with all previous names and some info. GAve to security they told me to sit, but there was no one there lol so I was called right away...

A guy took my form... asked and entered it into computer system...asked me was it correct.... then took my finger prints, told me that's it and I left :)

Following up on this, we did call the next day and got this taken care of. They gave us a reference number for the change, and said it should be updated in their system quickly (at government speed?) but to take the reference number with us to the biometrics appointment in case the maiden name still shows up in their system. So far the AOS process has me more stressed than the K1.

Thanks for the replies!

Did it not update online?

Hello.

I wasn't able to respond yesterday, it looks like the forum was down for a while. Yes, I do see now that it did update online. I had never created an account before, I didn't realize that it showed different information than just searching with the case number. Thanks!

Great :) You can also activate email and/or phone notification when something updates on any of your cases, in case you missed it :)

On another related item, we got the biometrics appointment letter, but it only shows I-485 and I-765 as the cases on the bottom. Is this normal, or should it also show the I-131 case?

i-131 doesn't require biometrics.. so it's all as should :)

Ok, back again on this. After completing biometrics, does anything update in their system? Also, even though we had called and created a case (or whatever they call it in their system) to change from maiden name to married name, at the biometrics appointment they wanted her to sign in her maiden name, as that is what matched her passport. Seemed kind of odd to me. Thoughts?

About the update... idk.. I mean, when I was there and put my information on the given Form I wrote my married name...followed by other names used...

About the signing... I was simply told to sign...so I put my signature, which idk if it really looks like any of my names... lol

What was the name they had on her?
