Russia denies existence of senior diplomat "shot dead in his flat"

A high-ranking Russian diplomat has reportedly been found dead from a gunshot wound at his Moscow home but the Kremlin has denied his existence.

According to local media reports, a senior civil servant in the Foreign Ministry was found dead at his home in the Balaklavsky Prospekt apartment block with a bullet wound in the head.

The victim has since been widely named as Petr Polshikov, 56 who is reportedly a senior figure in the the Latin American department at the ministry.

But Moscow has denied any knowledge of a Mr Polshikov working at the department

A spokesman for the Kremlin told the Metro: "We dont know any official with this name. We havent seen anything about this in the Russian news either, and so we have no statement to make about it."
