Travel time from LHR to Knightsbridge

I'm just about to book my flight for the day of my medical, but before I do I wanted to try and get a rough idea of the travel time (assuming all runs smoothly) from Heathrow to Bentinck Mansions. I'm not too concerned for my outward travel, as I can get a flight that gets me into London in plenty of time. But I'm more concerned about flying back home, and giving myself enough time to get from the medical back to Heathrow. My appointment is at 2.30pm, so assuming all is smooth and straightforward, should a flight back to Edinburgh leaving at 6.30pm give me ample time to get to the airport from Knightsbridge? I intend to use the tube to get to and from the medical.

I know I'm probably worrying over nothing, but I'm so unfamiliar with London and I'm stressing out slightly trying to plan everything!

I did it after flying down from Manchester. The cheapest option is using the London Underground via Piccadilly using an Oyster card or a contactless credit card (the contactless credit card option is quickest as you don't need to top anything up unlike the Oyster card). Heathrow Terminal 5 has a tube station a few minutes from domestic arrivals, and I think that the Knightsbridge tube station is the nearest one to the Knightsbridge location you're heading to (though this is confirmed on their webpage).

I did the journey from in around 60 minutes from getting on to the tube, and 60 minutes back in the opposite direction too on the same day. There is an option using the Heathrow Express as well but is more expensive, and doesn't save too much time. Plus the Piccadilly line is simple, you just sit on the tube and don't have to change (you'd have to change at Paddington with the Heathrow Express) This includes walking time, and waiting for the train but it might differ on the day. I know that the Piccadilly line has been running at a reduced frequency recently but I doubt that'd affect you too much given that the frequency hasn't reduced drastically (I think they're coming by even 15-20 minutes and they're usually every 10 minutes).

Assuming you leave Knightsbridge by 4.30pm at the latest, I think you should be good even with delays. I'd envisage you'd finish up and have left Knightsbridge by then anyway :)

For information, you have to pass through security in Terminal 5 no later than 35 minutes before your flight (your boarding pass won't work to get through the security gates after that and you'll get a red cross, and won't be allowed through even if you plead with somebody). I'm taking an educated guess that you're departing LHR Terminal 5 insofar that LHR-EDI is the currently only served by BA from Terminal 5 (though that'll change next year with the introduction of FlyBe LHR-EDI from LHR Terminal 2).

In summary: I think it'd be a drastic set of events for you to miss your flight and you'll be grand :)

Thank you! I'm pretty confident it'll all be okay on the day, I'm just worrying about every eventuality. From looking at the maps and tube lines, it looks like it's fairly straightforward.

Guess I'll go book my flight then!

Thanks again ☺
