WARNING: Graphic images

THEY are murdered in the street, in their own homes, in front of their own children.

Not even the rich, the famous or the politically connected are safe from The Punishers army of killers as they carry out what amounts to a state-sponsored massacre.

The death toll from Philippine President Rodrigo Dutertes war on drugs is about to hit the 6000 mark, just five months after he took office.

That figure, while shocking, is not even close to the target.

You can expect 20,000 or 30,000 more, Mr Duterte told reporters in October.

To the majority who voted for him, the 71-year-old is simply honouring his election promise to dump the bodies of 100,000 (drug dealers and users) in Manila Bay

What outsiders don't understand is he has been this way for many years, and it not only drug dealers he goes after. It is criminals in general. He doesn't play, He has ran Davao City with an Iron fist for the last 15 years. You commit a crime against a person in Davao City or if you are part of a criminal syndicate to commit crime then your a legitimate threat of assassination, that has been his proclamation as Mayor of Davao City for years.

Davao City is the safest city in Philippines thanks to him, Hopefully he will spread his Iron Fist to the rest of the country which it appears he is doing.

As far as I know Trump and Duterte have never met.

No, I have not followed Philippines much since he won, Last time I was in Davao City I saw a few poster urging him to run. The country is ripe and I guess under his leadership they are starting to emerge. I know the US dollar is almost 50 to 1 but I assume that has a lot to do with US Economy and Trump effect a bit. I was there years ago and it was 56 to 1, and jeepney was 3 pesos in Davao City, that was almost 20 years ago.
