Our AOS interview is in two days and I just noticed my wife and kids will need Government issued Identification to enter the building.

Does anyone know if they will accept the EAD cards as a proper ID?

Thanks for your assistance with my question

It is a photo ID, so should work. Why not just use their passports though?

I'm assuming they mean a U.S. Issued Government ID.

But also I read something yesterday that they want a local government issued ID so they can make sure that we are indeed local. I don't know. I sent the family to DMV today to get ID's. At least we'll have a receipt showing that the ID's are in process.

I'll post my experience with the process tomorrow night when we get home from LA.

No, does not have to be a local ID or US govt. issued. Most people use their passports. Many AOS applicants do not have US issued IDs.

Congratulations! Can you tell us how it was?

It was super easy. When we got to USCIS we went through security, we didn't bring our cell phones but they are allowed to be brought into the building. It's not as strict as the consulate.

We provided our appointment letters which they kept (I should've made copies) and we showed our passports for our IDS. Then we were given a number and we waited to be called.

When our number was called all 4 of us (I as the petitioner, wife as the beneficiary and her 2 children) went into the interview room together.

The agent who was very pleasant with us asked for all of our passports. He then asked to see original birth certificates for my wife and two girls.

He then asked my fiancée to verify her name, her mother and fathers name and our current address.

He told us right away at the beginning that we were already approved and he just needed to check off some information.

He never asked for our sealed medical envelopes from the civil surgeon. Towards the end of the process I said oh, by the way, here's our sealed medical forms from the civil surgeon. He seemed surprised and said oh ok, then opened the envelopes and added them to the file. He never looked at what was in the medical files.

He didn't ask for any further proof of our relationship. I had with me photos, copy of our lease, bank statement, utility bills, cell phone bills etc...- but he never asked.

I also brought a current signed letter from my employer, 6 months of pay stubs, w2s for the past 3 years.

Before we left I mentioned the girls would be traveling for the holiday, he gave us an approval letter with his tamp and signature. He said we would get the I-797 in the mail showing we were approved, and he said the current processing time for green cards is 10 days.

He also mentioned once we get our green cards we would need to go get new Social Security Cards because the new ones we get won't have an expiration date.

And that is how it went down. All is good. :D

Congrats!

And that part I quoted is just strange. Social security numbers and cards do not expire. You should update their immigration status at the SSA and they will then receive new cards(same number) without the stipulation printed on them about needing DHS authorization. That authorization is no longer needed because they are permanent residents now.

The SSN cards we received have a one year expiration date printed in the bottom right corner. When we get the new cards they will have the same number, but the DHS authorization and the expire date in the bottom right corner will be removed.

Oh, is that because you got them based on the EAD, so they would no longer be valid once the EAD expired? Got it, and congrats again :)
